If the price of an option is determined by its greeks then why do options have a bid and ask price, shouldn't there just be one price because it is not being dictated by how much people would be willing to sell/buy it for but solely by the greeks? That was also a first, and a very bad sign for America. And a president I missed but I regard as an asshole for pushing the lie that wealth will best enrich those with little by giving it to those with the most capital. Trickle down economics is absolute horseshit, and I’m not sure what evidence he had for it. Also fucked up with mental institutions and war on drugs and stuff. Fuck actors.

But I have more disdain for the completely vacuous and artificial nature of reality tv. At least regular fiction is upfront about it.

I don’t know I’m a cranky old millennial and I don’t like the kardashification of America, and I see trump as a part of that.

I suspect the apprentice was his most successful venture in decades if not ever.

His only job right now is to make my numbers go up and suddenly his job performance has taken a worrying turn for the worse.

I think it's generally agreed upon that everything's dipping because Corona is fucking with supply chains and everyone's earnings are going to suffer.
Fed will cut rates, question is will anyone even buy that this will do anything? Cheap money or credit isn't going to help when Ford can't get the car parts it needs. Historically Fed money means stonks will go up, but it's also never been used to try and address earnings misses due to supply chain shocks before.
If the Fed money doesn't do anything, then this dip is going to last as long as supply chains are hampered, which means this is just the beginning. If the Fed still has enough hype power to pump up the jam in spite of everyone knowing that earnings are going to be a huge miss for everyone, then the dip will (at least temporarily) reverse.
Personally I'm out man, I think this is going to get worse before it gets better. We've go at least another few weeks of countries shutting down borders or companies announcing their going to miss earnings because they relied to heavily on just in time delivery.
Maybe I'll miss out on some gains, but I think we may have finally reached the point where cheap money can no longer prop this thing up and I'm acting accordingly. But I'll admit there's a very good chance that the market is way more gullible than I think and I could be wrong.

The market has been flooded for fucking years with cheap credit, valuations have risen incredibly while earnings have not kept up pace. Powell putting out a statement today is significant. It's somewhat unusual to do so outside scheduled fomc meetings and press releases. I interpret this as likely Fed will do a 25-50 bip cut in March 17-18 meeting, probably say blah blah corona virus concern blah 2% inflation target. Rate cuts are also traditionally good for oil price in short term. My whole oil thesis fir March is OPEC production cut on the 6th because Corona impact, China reopens factories, Powell cuts rate, oil goes straight back to mid 50's.

Fingers crossed this works out. I need crab walk on index for best scenario. Or recovery is good too but crab is sufficient.

Corona will be cured within 2 weeks and you will hear about cures en mass from different nations within 1. Just like a bad run in "Plague Inc-by Ndemic Creations-the hit mobilie game ported to steam", the game that inspired the Corona virus, our deadly pathogen revealed itself for too soon and its cure is but on the horizon. considering the low cost of entry, and the ability to make any shithole city you live in into a fucking playground, im surprised more of em arent into it. i guess its just seen as some "cracka ass bullshit", and by all rights it IS, but its definitely better than some "nigga ass bullshit" imo

in antwons case, and really all those old baker dudes that were at the mansion, the problem was that, while being some of the best around in terms of cracka ass bullshit, they also got cocky and decided to get into nigga ass bullshit (ie crack fucking cocaine) too. in antwons case, iirc, i think he also got heavy into PCP, and something mustve snapped

Obviously none of us can predict or time market changes, truly, but discerning trends isn't out of the question. What I like about options is that it's like being able to sell your bet before it actually pays off. If you're on the winning side, you can relinquish ownership early and keep your profits. Maybe they'll go up from there, but at least you're not losing any of your own money by getting out early.

Did you listen to the prophet?
SSO (DBPG for euroanons) is a 2x leveraged ETF based on the S&P 500 and it is one of the few leveraged ETFs that existed before the Great Financial Crisis of 2008. Had you bought SSO (DBPG) at the literal top of the market before the recession in October 2007, as of this moment you would have gains of 176%. Had you bought the underlying SPY on the same day you would have gains of 98%. So had you bought the leveraged ETF, even at the worst possible time, you still would have ended up with almost double the gains today.
Remember this the next time somebody throws shade on leveraged ETFs because of volatility decay. Buy the index based leveraged ETFs and win. Simple as that. And start buying now. Coronavirus could be as bad as the GFC and if you start buying in now with a little money and buy in more later as the prices drop you will still come out much better in the long run than buying SPY or worse, doing nothing at all. I'm buying and I'll be here when this thing is over to brag about my gains. Do not be afraid. We will get through this and this is your opportunity. Join me and get rich.

Honestly, I don't feel smart or cool at all. I just feel incredibly lucky, and somewhat afraid. Of course I want something like that to happen again, but I don't want to chase that same feeling either. I need to be smart about how I use this new cash. I ain't a genius, that's for fucking sure.
But yeah, I've been loving options so far for the reason you said. Your loss is always limited to the amount you put in, but your gains are technically infinite. This means you can make plays in the low thousands or low tens of thousands but make out with 1000% gain within a few days if you made the right move. Stocks just aren't going to do that for you. The fact you can run spreads is also great since it limits your risk even more. You can definitely trade options safely and smartly, you just need to understand what can be done with them. I still have a metric fuckload to learn.

all i can say is, if you wish to get further into options, you absolutely MUST learn greeks, how they work, and why they sometimes will be on discount, or give you a much larger credit than they realistically should.
and by combining multiple legs, of both long and short contracts, you can game these mispriced greeks, either canceling whole greeks exposures entirely, or enhancing them.

You sound too giddy to be LARPing, so I do believe you. My stance on options is that you should only make plays on certainty. You might end up being wrong, since certainty doesn't equate to reliability, but I don't really place them in the same speculative category as I do normal stocks. I decide to play options when I see a window of opportunity, and I take my profit if I feel that window of opportunity is receding. No guilt over missing bigger gains. I just appreciate my good fortune.

I made about 2.5K selling puts this morning, from a premium of around 500. I could have put down 10K if I wanted do. But I don't feel regret over it, because my strategy worked and that's all that matters. If my strategies continue to work, I can gradually raise the stakes. If they start failing, I can bring the stakes down. I'm not one to chase losses.

If I were you I'd stick to further options plays in the range of 5-10K. Yeah, you could put 50 grand on something and come out with 300K in a day and be comfortable for 10 years. But I'd remain conservative throughout. You did really well, and I hope you're wise enough to protect your fortune.

Sigh, I'll tell you the honest truth, job burnout is a very real thing. Been at my job for 15 years. 11 more to go before I can hang it up for good. I'm sick of it now and I'm only 37. I just want to say fuck it and "retire" and do jack shit other than what I want till I die. My job is not hard, hell compared to some its pretty laid back, easy as shit as you could get but it involves a lot of physical movement and heavy lifting in some cases. Which after so many years, the heavy lifting especially, takes a toll on you. The thought of busting my back all to shit is very much on my mind these days.

What? You clearly stated in your post that you can't play games because you're in a sense worried about your active trades. Are you drunk? Or high? Or just angry?

Eh, I think there’s more than coronavirus going on here to be completely honest. Tech VC is kind of a glorified ponzi scheme where millions are getting handed to junior managers with a sparkling pitch and no shame, and I think people are getting wise to it slowly but surely and it’s all rippling out from that. The virus is the catalyst but I think it probably goes deeper.

literally everything is a cheapie right now we just got a nice big correction
I know the vast majority of this thread is retarded but fundamentally the market is sound. Low tax rates and good trade deals = growth. corona will kill a few boomers and then disappear like every other pandemic in the last 20 years because we're too good at beating every virus. Everything else is primed for growth and we will continue growing to new ATH

Pin bar on indexes plus shooting star in vix. I’d say short term bounce and maybe retest later in month is standard although china said they will v bottom like we did back in 2018/2019. China’s quarantine is too strict. Even areas that don’t have any covid are quarantine and public spaces are closed. Once china opens up, this will be another flu. Open supply lines are the main problem, not the disease and people dying cuz fuck people. Gimme dat money!

I have some professional background here at a decently high level overall, though I am green as shit. While this is true, the ones that make are often not actually making it, you dig? The post-IPO buyers are major bag holders and the game is meant to play out over a decade or less. The waterfall will stop higher and higher until it’s no longer profitable for VC firms or the entire thing will crash.

But I’m a few beers in on a Friday night and I’m just anon rambling, don’t take anything you read here seriously.
