It's happening anon. This is the beginning of the next great depression. Stock up, prep yourself for rough years ahead, food shortages, water shortages, global economic instability, war, pestilence, death. It's finally happening, this is the beginning of the end times. We didn't listen, we didn't care, and now we will pay the price for our greed and destruction. The whole system will collapse, society will crumble, knowledge will be lost forever and humanity will never recover.

Market analyst Connor Campbell of SpreadEx blames president Trump for today’s rout:

'With the coronavirus death toll approaching 3000, South Korea suffering another swell of cases, financial warnings from the likes of Microsoft, and the launch of an emergency response plan in Australia, it was hard to find even a modicum of comfort on Thursday morning.

The fact Mike Pence – whose policies helped lead to Indiana’s worst outbreak of HIV, not at the height of the crisis, but in 2014/15 – has been put in charge of the US response to the coronavirus was arguably the tipping point for investors.

It’s an unserious choice by a President who, on Wednesday night, seemed too blasé about the issue for the market’s liking – especially since former Fed chair Janet Yellen speculated that a surge of cases in America could force the country into a recession.'

Posted in the last thread but it, um, bears repeating
SSO is a 2x leveraged ETF based on the S&P 500 and it is one of the few leveraged ETFs that existed before the Financial Crisis of 2008. Had you bought SSO at the top of the market before the recession in October 2007, as of now you would have 180% gains. SPY bought on the same day leave you 98% up. So had you bought the 2x ETF at the worst possible time, you still would have almost double the gains now.
Remember this the next time somebody brings up leveraged ETFs and volatility decay. Buy the index based leveraged ETFs and win. Simple as that. And start buying now. Coronavirus could be as bad as the GFC and if you start buying in now with a little money and buy in more later as the prices drop you will still come out much better in the long run than doing nothing at all. I'm buying and I'll be here when this thing is over to brag about my gains. Do not be afraid. We will get through this and this is your opportunity. Join me and get rich.
>Why not just go short with SQQQ, SOXS, et al?
I have some short contracts in Russell 2000 futures as a bit of a hedge but after doing a lot of thinking and taking into account the success rate of market timers (dismal), the bulk of my strategy through this is to go long the /ES and with SOXL at major support levels as we go down while keeping my RTY shorts for entertainment. I've never met a rich market timer, especially one who can consistently switch between shorts and longs, however I know a few millionaires who go long only and take special advantage of instances like now where prices are plunging across the board. If you can pull it off though, my hat's off to you and I look forward to hearing about it in a future /smg/. But, personally while I'm really good at going long in the right spots and selling at resistance (I turned $2500 into a few hundred thousand in the 2018 crypto market), I don't think I'm lucky enough to flip flop between shorts and longs. Maybe some day.

What the fuck was the man supposed to say? If he'd made up a bunch of bullshit about how everything's gonna be fine he'd have been attacked for lying. Instead he said what pretty much everybody already knows, it's serious and if it breaks out in the US, they have a response from the CDC that will be deployed as the situation develops. One dumbfuck reporter asked "Well, aren't you worried, M-mister Trump?" His response was direct and to the point, worrying is unhelpful and we will deal with Coronavirus if and when there's an outbreak but in the meantime we're working on a virus, and oh by the way, wash your fucking hands. The market "dumped" because people were expecting him to come up with some emotional bullshit to pacify people. When he just told it like it was the clowns in the futures market didn't like it so they sold. His response was spot on. No bullshit and no histrionics. All business. >Should I buy leveraged S&P NOW?
I have about 15% of my available funds in the market and will buy more as the prices get better. As you know, without a crystal ball there is no way to predict when we will bounce back. It could be next month of next year. Buy a little now and as the situation develops, buy more. If you just get a little and we bounce right back (less and less likely) then you made some money. If the market continues to plunge and you continue to get a lot more you will be extremely happy on the other side. The thing about these leveraged ETFs is the cheaper the underlying gets, the leveraged version is moving 2 or 3 times faster so it's getting just that much more cheaper. Now that the market is down over 9% from the high, the time to start buying is immediately. Maybe 10 or 15% of your cash to start and think about getting more as we go through the support lines (in green on pic related). In the financial crisis, the market went down 55% from its peak and I'm thinking the covid-19 situation won't get any worse than that so stage successively larger buys between here and that possible 55% drop. If it does really get bad in the next year and the price really hits rock bottom that's when you want to throw everything you have at it. Sell valuables if you have to. The bounce on the other side be it a year from now or 3 years will be absolutely legendary and you will be extremely happy. This is precisely my plan but with SOXL and TECL rather than SSO (DBPG for euroanons).

>The thing is. I don't have any cash, it's pretty much all in the stock market. Is this a stupid thing right now? Should I sell a bunch now and slowly buy back in (leveraged), or should I slowly switch my regular S&P for leveraged?
As the price drops I would switch the S&P shares for leveraged shares. This will actually work better for you if we recover sooner than expected since you'll still be invested versus going through a quick recovery in all cash which is what you really don't want. And if it does keep dropping, the amount you lose by staying in the S&P with the unleveraged portion will be much more than made up by the increasingly larger leveraged position. I have a 401k that is mostly in VOO and I will be slowly switching it over to something leveraged in the next few months.
This is a personal decision though so think very carefully. I made the case here >>17463771 that, e.g., SSO is in almost any outcome vastly superior to being in an unleveraged SPY even buying at the top right before the worst recession since the Great Depression. Since we're already down over 9% and you don't have anything leveraged you are already way ahead of the game versus the worst case scenario above. So think it through, do the math and if you choose to start leveraging, even now, I think you will be much better off in the end.

I'm just saying -50% in the underlying is -150% in tqqq. Probably more due to rebalancing. You don't want to keep averaging down in something that hits 0. I haven't read the prospectus, but that would probably collapse the fund. If you don't think that can happen, look at XIV. It's possible for TECL, SOXL, SPXL, and TQQQ to all collapse. Then again, they might just reverse split. Unlikely but not unprecedented. And this would happen with only a 30-40% drop in XLK, SOXX, SPY, and QQQ respectively.

>SOXL
If this market keeps dropping and really dips into a recession it's pretty much the chance of a lifetime, or at least of a generation and SOXL is by far close to the best way to capitalize on it. Imagine getting a little bit as it goes then sinking most of your networth in somewhere around 100 or so. The wealth built on the other side will be legendary. 3x leveraged ETFs weren't really a thing in 2008 so this is the first time we're really able to take advantage of them. I'm really excited. And SOXL hit 203 in premarket a bit ago so sub 200 is in ths cards today.

SNSS is currently in their phase1b testing of Vecabrutinib, a BTK inhibitor that can treat people with CLL mutation (unlike it's competitors) and has significant value as a combination therapy with broader BTK inhibitors. Vecabrutinib was created by Biogen before BTK inhibition was proven to actually work against hematological cancers, and sold to SNSS for unbelievably cheap. Their 400mg cohort data is coming in Q1 2020, and their 300mg dose data showed near theraputic levels of BTK inhibition, including 1 40% tumor reduction, a mere 10% away from Partial Remission, meaning their data this time is likely to show tumor reduction and at least partial remissions. Other BTK inhibitors have shown massive value recently, like ARQL being bought out for 2.7 billion

Also, I suggested SSO (2x leverage), not TQQQ in that post. Furthermore, synthetic versions of these funds have been backtested to the 1800s and never would have liquidated, not during the depression, great recession, black Monday, etc.

A put is the right to sell an underlying asset (in our case, stocks) at an agreed upon price. You hold this right until the contract expires or you sell the put option.
Suppose you purchase out-of-the-money Microsoft puts when Microsoft is $190, and it cost you $1. Your put contract is $180 expiring 3/20. If the price of MSFT drops to $170, your puts are now worth $10 (there is a bit more to it than that, but that's the simplified version). Your puts are therefore worth 10X what you bought them for. I weigh out mentally, or sometimes on paper, where a good time to buy is, and I have to support it with a why. Not just ignorance. Look at market drivers and possibilities, factor your risk in too for the profitability if need be. The riskier it is, the more return you want for that risk, generally speaking. Same goes for exit points. It's like a more complex form of trap shooting but instead you have a rifle.

Banks are always leveraged. With this market pull back it might be interesting to see how they're faring. They generally have whole teams to hedge against such things though. I think some banks are 10:1-20:1

Trust is impossible to find without experience.

For my employees, I promote the dedicated ones that defend me all the time even if they're less qualified because I need someone who cares about me/the business more than I need a ruthless cutthroat manager who'll save me 2% then cost me 5% to train another

Also, all political posts are a fucking joke

The brokerages have some kind of regulatory issue or liability issue of some sort with where the customer is resident and if he's not US resident, they avoid serving him. There are horror stories of brokerages dropping US citizen clients after they move overseas. Like, "here's your money back, fag. Have a nice life". The good news is, they don't really want to drop you and will sometimes prefer plausible deniability. I moved to Europe for a bit and called my broker to change my address because their system wouldn't let me change it to a non-US address online. The customer service chick said something along the lines of "well, it'll be complicated if you put the UK as your address. Do you have a US address you can give me instead where you can receive mail?". It turns out I did, so I gave her that address and no more fucks were given. This was, like, ten years ago or so, so things might've changed since then.

lmao

Thanks, I'll see if I can make it work. Though it may be wiser to stay away from options so I don't lose it all.

Sold 75% of my stack at ath. Thought about selling the rest after the first dump but thought fuck it. They're all or mostly all good companies that will exist after this blows over. And if it doesn't blow over and I die in the boogaloo than it wouldn't have really mattered if I sold or not.
