Depends on how old you are and your risk appetite.

Pick the one that has the best rate of return and lowest expense fees. if you see FXAIX there that a great one.

401(k) is literally DAC for people who don’t normally invest. It not lump sum you neet. It gets taken out of your pay every period.

>> No.17459960

I'd wait 3-5 years minimum before even considering it. I've run VARIOUS quants on this. You need to have a premium attached to your risk, and right now risk is so high and reward so low for long playd, quantitatively it doesn't make any sense to be in a non actively managed fund by yourself. Hedges I don't trust.

>>17459889
We could be talking a 15% difference here in long term growth. How does that make me foolish?

You guys that talk about not timing ut simply just don't know what you're doing. I doubt you even understand the implications of such current events, let alone understand micro/macro economics. The two tie together and right now we're looking at a minumum probable 2-3% loss per month cumulatively until the world gets back to normal export and import activity. Read a book and do your math. Seriously.

Vanguard Mid Cap Index Admiral = 20%
Vanguard Prime money Market Investor = 10%
Vanguard Small Cap Index Admiral = 50%

oh my God OP, we're not being cynical and obnoxious cause we hate you, we literally follow the fucking market here. Boomers who don't understand the technology stick with the stock market that's being propped up (look up Federal Reserve Repo operations). You're screwing yourself over investing in a 401K.

Those percentages don't tell the whole story. Actively managed funds have high expense ratios which seriously eat away your gains over time. People recommend S&P 500 indexes because they are extremely cheap and always perform well.

All the following sound like good options.
>Total International Stock Index
>Fidelity Small Cap Index
>Schwab S&P 500 Index
>Fidelity Mid Cap Index
>Fidelity Total Market Index

Check their fees, though. Should be less than 0.2%. I'd probably go with 30% small-cap, 30% international, and 40% S&P 500. And if you're going to retire in less than 20 years, you shouldn't be 100% in stocks.

>>17459762
Small Cap Stocks have historically out-performed the S&P 500, at lower risk. But yeah, avoid anything with bonds until you're old.
