My VIX strategy: Short it >_<
Hehe my butterfly strat is a way to reduce downside from just buying puts, if I can stagger long put butterflies properly it seems like I can just wait until VXX moves inside their wings then close them, max loss is like 40 bucks if it doesn't work (and it was killer today). IV is so high on VXX options that if it even vaguely looks like VXX could could finish inside the butterfly you can close them early for almost as much as you'd get if they stayed there. Only hiccup is it seems to take an hour+ to fill them even though options volume is huge, not sure why that is.

Collapse of the capitalist/financial system is antithetical to Marx's concept of the revolution. Marx envisioned a streamlining and progression PAST capitalism via dialectics. He wanted us to perfect production to the point where capitalism would no longer be necessary, not collapse it. That's why Marx didn't intend for the rise of Communism in Russia, he wanted it to start in the most advanced capitalist nations of the day, England or Germany.

Not everything. Socialism remains a vastly better and more efficient system than capitalism, as attempts in history have shown.

The question is just, how do we get there?

Real Talk:

why be mad about markets crashing, why hodl and BTFD? you can make money in markets betting on price going down or going up, it isn't just betting on up only. hell even with options spreads you can simply bet on volatility regardless of direction by buying both a put and call. why not make money on the most obvious short of our lives?

this is GOOD for the market, those skyhigh evaluations are now coming back to earth. those expensive shares are now becoming cheaper. you know what you get to do? you get to make money on the way down, and then when things get better and start to turn around? that's right! you get to buy in cheap, how awesome is that! the trend is your friend until the end, idk what is so difficult to grasp about that for some of you. stocks go down you short, stocks go up you long, it really is just that easy.

Uh, the Soviet Union, the entire Eastern Block, China (until Deng), Cuba?

Socialist countries always faired better against their capitalist counterparts at the same economic development. Look it up at the UN.

The university of Bremen (West Germany) even recognised in a study that the infamous GDR had steeper economic growth than the West one, despite being much smaller, lower population and being embargoed out of the world economy by the west.

Maybe this historian could give you a hint at a better perspective:

1) calm down. realize that any increased heart rate or feelings of nausea that kind of come and go with varying intensity is probably just adrenaline from a lowkey conscious or unconscious anxiety about being sick. adrenline, and its effects (sweaty palms, needing to poop, nausea, rapid heart rate, light-headedness, ringing in ears), takes about 15 min to metabolize. look at the nearest clock, wait 15 minutes, and chances are you'll be feeling better at least mentally and emotionally.
2) get a shitload of vitamin C either through pills or powder supplements and zinc lozenges. was a bedside medical worker for 5 years and that shit would absolutely destroy anything that came into my system
3) if you're not in the US chances are medical bills aren't a concern. really no harm getting checked out and if you have it opt to self-quarantine

Last night they went down a bit but nothing like what has been going on in the us market these last 3 or 4 days. The answer is probably there. Also, china has banned shortselling or even selling stock if you're holding over a certain amount of money. >guarantee

lmao that's not how markets work. you get to know the past and the present, you generally want to trade along with the trend (which can be short, medium, and long term), and you have proper risk management with stop losses and scaling out points. you have an edge which you take advantage of over and over and over, there is no "guarantee" and holding overnight is inherently risky because stop losses don't work in the premarket.

or to put it another way: you get to know what the current short/medium/long trends are, and you expect the trend to continue until there are indications that it isn't. since thursday of last week the SPY went into a downtrend and it continues to do so until right now. ultimately it is all reflected in the price action, you could know literally nothing about the news going on and still see that the SPY went into a downtrend since thursday and has stayed there.

idk how to simplify this anymore, but i'll try... if the long term trend is down, the medium term trend is down, the short term trend is down, you should probably short shit. if the long/medium are down and the short term is up, you should consider covering or at least taking some profits and wait for the short term to go down again for another entry point. get it?

It's an 80/20 game

Because of irregularity of super-spreader action the virus in initial outbreak is irregular

So you have 10 people come into country with this virus. 9/10 lines of the virus may just die out on their own, except 1 person spreads it to 10.

Then of those 10 maybe 2 spread it but to 10 people each, etc, then you get one of the 20 who is a food worker and he spreads it to 200 people, of those 200, 20 spread it to 10 people, 400 cases now, 1 of those is a doctor who sees 50 patients a day, etc

It was like sparks over the world and it lit flames in Italy, Iran, Japan, Korea, etc.

Now those fires are making their own sparks, what country is next?

Doubt that whoever was reporting that really is an insider. JP Morgan is an important financial-historical figure who had insider knowledge back in his day. These days, I don't know who really calls the shots. Dark pool buying usually rises during large down days, and the last two, it hasn't. In Oct. 18 the wallstreet journal stopped reporting on major buyers and sellers-they had a daily spreadsheet going. It never came back. CBOE increased their margin requirements on futures trading due to higher expected volatility around the same time. Then December happened. Margin was increased this past January. I doubt the worst is behind us.

Sure are talking a lot of shit in this thread for someone who doesn’t understand what would cause a bank run.

What makes you think negative rates would cause a bank run? Generally individual savers aren’t charged interest by their banks, it’s the banks who pay it to the central banks who lose money, thus have more incentive to loan to people like entrepreneurs and homebuyers, theoretically stimulating the economy.

gold/silver most likely. even bonds despite the yield going down, money managers in these scenarios are mostly just trying to not lose money as opposed to trying to make money, that's how "safe havens" work. basically, in good times institutions are willing to take risks to make a lot of money. in bad times, they just want to not lose money, just outpace inflation basically. right now with nCoV we're in a bad time, as the market is forward looking and obviously the pros see global growth going to shit this year.

>Muh gorillion dead people
China was the "Sick Man of Asia" before communists took power. It had constant famines before, some of which were worse than the so-called "Great" one. Which gets overemphasised by western propaganda media. Not to mention how they blatently inflate the numbres, which is why the supposed death rates keep changing. It also downplays other factors, which lead to the famine like natural disasters etc. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_famines_in_China
The Chinese population exploded and life expectancy increased by a lot, due to the improved living conditions thanks to the communists. And that within record time, whereas capitalist countries tend to need centuries to achieve such results if at all.
But let's also ignore that such famines happen in capitalist countries too and more regularly. According to the UN over seven million people starve to death each year worldwide, despite the fact that we produce enough food for over 10 billion people right now -- how efficient (sarcasm).

Also, you clearly haven't even looked at the other part of my last post. Typical closed-minded idiocy.

Things are also not just "not perfect". Thanks to capitalism we are literally heading towards extinction with man-made climate change. This is the biggest failure any system could possibly achieve.
