A word on coin premiums.

Subtract the spot price from the coins. Divide the difference by the spot price. This is the premium price that really counts.

If your coin shop fixes the price over spot then buy when coins are more expensive because you'll get a better deal.

Notice too that in terms of percentage over spot price that silver coins have a significantly higher premium than gold coins. Coin shops make more money when you buy silver coins than gold coins.

Finally, if you treat inflation as a sort of "deflationary interest" on your precious metals purchases this means that it takes much longer for silver coins to appreciate value than gold coins.

You're going to run out of options for buying at spot pretty quickly unless you have private sellers and you're confident in verifying it's authenticity.

The spot price bars and rounds pretty much always only sell for spot or below as well. Nobody really wants buffalo rounds and the die quality isn't very good on them. Put a buffalo round next to something from the US, Canadian, Mexican or British mint and it looks like garbage.

If you're buying silver for just melt value there's no real reason to care about design or premium I guess.

Just bought more gold/silver at this dip. Been accumulating metals since mid last year (and crypto for longer). Total holdings now up to:

8 oz gold
500 oz silver
1 oz platinum

8 BTC
6 BCH
6 BSV
20 LTC
32 ETH
5000 XRP
1000 LINK

I marvel at the bros in these threads who have been accumulating for several years, wish I started paying attention to these things after the GFC like all the smart people did. I was such a stupid consoomer

Got into link way late, bought in during the September dip at $1.62 but at the time I didn't have much dry powder. Since then I've been focused solely on increasing my PMs since my crypto exposure is way overweight already...

I'm looking at getting into investments in general and I don't want to ignore PMs since they seem like a great backup/safety net.
Do you guys all in on PMs or are you also doing traditional stocks and 401k?
I'm putting the max percentage my employer will match into 401k but I'm also looking at taking ~$100 a month to test the waters of investing right now. Does a coin a month and the rest in stocks seem like a good balance?

I forgot to actually answer your last question.

I think a lot of people suggest 5-10% into PMs but you might want to consider buying spot price deals first to get started.

This is my favorite one
https://www.providentmetals.com/buy-silver-at-spot-price.html

But you can find more deals on https://findbullionprices.com/buy-silver-at-spot-deals.php if you want to use a different exchange.

It doesn't really matter but the cheap rounds you get near spot like prospectors and buffalos will pretty much only ever be worth spot price.

It's really up to you as far as what you want, what your goals are and how much you want to spend at a time.

If the price is going to moon like you guys believe then you should stack the silver with the least premium.
