17424718 No.17424718 [Reply] [Original]

My zoomer brother just said he wouldn't feel proud for becoming rich by an investment because he "didn't work for it" and wouldn't even feel good while others around would still have to work to make ends meet.
He even said he'd prefer to be poor than becoming rich this way...
What the fuck is wrong with normies? Is he just extremely jealous or do they really think like this?

Have you made implications? He probably feels envious/unintelligent/scared from you investing. He is right that earning your money for the plebian man is honorable and fulfilling. But he knows investing can bring you to a higher class overnight. Its one of those three feelings, perhaps a combination of all. The intelligent man works and invests.

Also funny thing I asked a few of my mates if they would change their lifestyles if they had 10 million in their bank accounts tomorrow (completely theirs) and they said no. They told me they didn't earn the money. I don't understand this mentality.

He thinks you'll like him if he says that.
That's literally 100% of normie programming: say and do what makes others like me, avoid what makes others dislike me.

They are not human.

let him rub shoulders with turbo-pleb normmies in some menial job for a few years and see how his idea of pride evolves
He's young, so I guess oversimplification can be expected, but everyone loves to oppose investment to "work" as if that meant being a humble cobbler like in children books. Truth is most jobs today are service industry "disconnected jobs" be it for the small hands, or the white collars, low wage isn't an antidote to lack of meaning, it just means you have to bear with it longer

Reminds me of when I asked former coworkers what they would do if they suddenly had like $10 million usd.

The weird guy I got along with
>"I'd quietly stand up and walk out of here."
Nice.

A girl I got along with
>"I'd keep working, what else is there to do?"
What!?

Even now that I'm unemployed for several months I still don't want to work but have to look for a job. My personal health, physical and mental, seems better now than when I worked. Also happier.

This.
Zoomers think that they can make a living being Instagram influencers, making Youtube or TikTok videos. As soon as they realize they have to work for real they'll change their mind.

These people are just young and do not understand how the world works or how important money actually is. This is likely the case because they are either middle or upper middle class already. And/or their parents never talk about finances with them.

When I was younger I used to think money was not important. As long as I made enough money to support myself and my family and take the occasional vacation I considered that enough. Now I realize that there's literally no downside to more money, there are only upsides

He will change his mind by the time he reaches 30, don't worry.
I don't plan to stop working if I ever make it but this would drastically change the way I interact with some people because I would not be at their financial mercy anymore.

When you're rich all interaction with people are at much lower stake, basically you're free to speak your mind without fearing retaliation.

It's retarded logic; you still have to work everyday you look at the price and tell yourself "No, I will not sell today, it will go higher" as you watch it pump and dump over and over again. You have no idea the amount of stress you can obtain from this sorta shit and not knowing how high your asset will actually go.

Many people (I thought it was just restricted to normies, but NEETs seem to have this attitude as well) don't just use jobs as a means to an end or to provide stuff to society; it's also to gain some kind of status. The sort of status you'll want will depend on what you or what you think people value. I too use to also have the view of financial market involvement not being "meaningful". But if you look at things in that way, you kind of have to apply it to many other types of occupations, particularly those in the white collar area. What a lot people do is process and record transactions (which have or will happen), ensure compliance with regulations, or plan and monitor logistics of people or goods/services (this would include stuff like communications infrastructure). Many of those things will require many aspects of intelligence, but are not always "tangible", "meaningful", or productive. Who are you meant to value more: the engineers who designed some highway and builders who made it, or the tax collectors who sourced funds to perhaps subsidize/fund its construction and maintain it?

People have a view that markets are easy money or basically a lottery. That's an outsider view. You have that view until you try not being part of the majority who lose.
