I found deep ITM puts on Robinhood where calculating leverage based on

(UnderlyingPrice*delta - OptionPrice)/OptionPrice indicated the leverage is about 3x.

How the fuck is that possible?

It's something I think could get fucked by covid-19 and don't think had been priced in yet, but somehow I can leverage the fuck up and not worry about losing money?

Or is the idea that it's likely to lose value over time due to theta since it expires in July?

I just don't understand how it can be a bad bet. If I bought the put and immediately executed it, I would pay $0.07.

So if I change my mind, I execute and only lose $0.07.

Or maybe I should buy a call so that if the price rises, I am still protected since I can buy for a set price to execute my put?

We've been in a bull market for 200 years and I relish the opportunity to buy cheapies on a 50% drop. It drops I buy, it goes up I ride the gains. Learn to react to what the market does and not what you want it to do or what it "should" do. Everybody here is in their 20's/30's (except me) so we all have plenty of time for our stonks to go up but you never know when that will be so as it goes down just load up
>>17403940
>THAT'S WHAT THE FED IS SUPPOSE TO DO! INFLATE STONKS!
The fed is supposed to keep inflation in check and keep the unemployment rate low. Inflating stonks is just a by-product but those were JPow's words not mine. The dude said he was ready to do whatever it took to keep us out of recession. But like I said, if we recede I'll buy. If not I'll ride. Think about it like this: in the GFC the S&P took a year and a half to drop 55%. Imagine buying the entire time as it was dropping then do the math on how fantastically rich you'd be right now had you done that. Stay buying my frens

>Actuallly in the last 5 years the NASDAQ rose 92%, while the 3x leveraged TQQQ rose 500%

It's due to the daily rebalancing. Imagine you had started 5 years ago with a 3x leveraged position in QQQ and didn't rebalance at all. As time wore on your principle would increase steadily but your borrowed amount never would causing your position to naturally deleverage from 3 to 2.99 to 2.98 and so on. At the end you'd have exactly 3x the returns of the QQQ underlying so a linear increase.
Now imagine you started with the 3x leveraged QQQ and each day as your principle increased you add to the leverage to keep you at a steady 3x. Your principle would increase exponentially as long as the underlying kept going up which in this case it did.

I haven't been watching much news or anything, but isn't that the feeling you get in the ether?

Tomorrow and possibly this whole week will be people freaking out about corona. Maybe too many people didn't want to miss the ebola/sars/mers style V-shaped recovery?

Wall Street might've thought this would be a literal nothing, when it might be a minor something? As in, knocks china's economy off the rails for a quarter, disrupting global manufacturing, demand, and supply chains?

I don't think I can be quick enough to sell and get back in, except for some semis and leveraged ETFs that have become too risky.

They've got growth and cloud... less levered to manufacturing and global economic recovery than most I would think?

>> No.17405579

>>17405242
> According to the Congressional Budget Office, real GDP in the U.S. is projected to grow at a 1.7% annualized pace through 2030. And, low as that is, it almost certainly is too optimistic, for two reasons: Economic projections are almost always too rosy (the CBO assumes no recession over the next decade, for example), and in any case publicly traded companies inevitably grow more slowly than the overall economy.

> That means the CBO’s projection translates into a projected inflation-adjusted total return for the S&P 500 of 2.6% annualized: The sum of 0.7% from earnings growth (one percentage point less than the CBO’s GDP projection) and the current dividend yield of 1.9%. That’s less than a third the historical rate and only a sixth of the last decade’s annualized growth.

Futures are more like predictions for the market. So if we have -1% we expect the market to open with a tick of -1%.

For futures there are no circuit breakers because... its futures. People do not really sell or buy stocks with it.

No, Trump will invoke that emergency crisis law put in place by Bush (and strengthened by Obama) and then Trump will become president for life. Wish I remember what that law/procedure was called.

Alternatively the election will either be delayed or people will be too afraid to go out and vote, causing Trump to win reelection even harder.
