Hey /biz/

Please help me out. Recently I was told that I need to get a business license because I've been making websites and graphics the past year.

But is it really considered a "business" when I just find random clients on craigslist? I made around $3000 with this freelance work in total. Do I really need this license?

only if you did business under a business name other than your own, you should claim the income technically on your taxes, but that's pretty much hobby level of income, so nobody is going to give a shit.
also if you claim it as a business, you may be able to deduct business expenses, such as your computer and home office space.
