How the fuck do I figure out the career I want to invest my time and money in?

I'm going to be 30 next year and nothing has caused me more anguish in life then deciding what career I want.

Please help anon

Sales

I've always tried to do "good" sales, things that people need/helps.

I worked for non profits and most recently a funeral home.

But the quotas and stress killed me.

I dont want to make tons of money. Just enough to survive, health care, and a non stressful environment.

You're doing it wrong, OP - you don't have to decide that shit, this is why I have reached 33/34 already in the same situation.

You don't have to know exactly (or even roughly) what you want to do, you just have to do SOMETHING that's KIND OF OK, and then opportunities and options and next-steps will arise.

This applies to most of life. Being indecisive and also thinking I had to wait for everything to be perfect before "committing" (there is no such thing) to it has left me with almost no experience in professional as well as, say, romantic contexts.

Do something, just something, you find interesting and good for now.

Anon, you are not giving us a lot to work with. What kind of sales? By telephone? Door-to-door?

If you want anything but some worthless general advice you are going to have to be more specific.

Your career shouldn't be your main focus, but the purpose of your life should be. God made us all with purpose and intent, it's on us to seek out what that is. Jobs, money, etc. That's just extra stuff. You can find way more fulfillment in something purposeful. The money or job will follow afterwards.

Find your passion. For me, it was sex so I became pornstar and male prostitute specializing in rape/strangle fetish, I have my own website were I record myself fucking chicks I pick up at bars and tinder, and it nets me good passive income money. I draw hentai for 30 bucks a pop. I'm also a former boxer and mma personal trainer.

I easily net 70k a year just fighting and fucking. It's awesome.

I understand this, but I fear I'll be stuck working a shit job that won't lead anywhere.. like I clean parking lots now and I love it but there's no future or benefits

>>17347757
It was door to door.. I was a director of fundraising and made 6 figures but was miserable because of the stress and travel.. I am great at sales and great with people. I love listening to people and helping them.

I also have an unshakable work ethic

(Also, sincerely thank you for caring enough to help me and give good advice anon)

This is good advice and really helps me right now, thank you.

>I fear I'll be stuck

The only way you get "stuck" is by doing nothing.

Anyone who went straight into proper lines of work, gained tonnes of experience and specialisation has 1000x the transferable skills, value, connections and general portability than someone who did nothing in their 20's to "keep their options open"

You've got it all completely backwards.

t. failure

Have you ever considered opening your own business? People with lots of success in that regard tend to agree learning sales and how to market is the #1 factor. Technical stuff, paperwork and grunt work can always be delegated or outsourced but people knowledge is worth its weight in gold.

That's a good idea..

I fear the risk that comes with it

But being my own boss and in charge of my own success could work

Thanks

It's not an idea.

"Running your own business" is no more of an idea than "getting a job", it literally tells you NOTHING. It's meme/joke advice, anon.

I feel you on the stress part, I'm thinking more and more about that.

I think an interesting career would be software development BUT not on trendy shit like web development, machine learning or buzzwordy crap. Try to find a stable (and mature) niche, like Entreprise grade Java or some shit like that (and of course avoid jobs with mandatory on-call). It will be boring quite a few times BUT it should meet your requirements.

This is also pretty good advice, there's no such thing as THE career for you and don't let yourself be affected too much by "decision paralysis".

A common mistake with newbie business owners is to start too big, ie: spending 100k opening a restaurant with no previous experience. You are supposed to start small, having it as a side thing without quitting your job until it starts working and a sizable amount of your income comes from it.
