Well, the volume is how much $ has been moved within the coin in a 24 hour period.
By looking at buy/sell walls you can see how much money needs to be injected for the coin to keep going up or how much people can sell before it tanks.
If there is a 5btc buy wall and 200btc volume it's safe to say that it will get broken. But that's also the case if there is a 5btc sell wall.

The volume doesn't tell you which direction the coin will go, but by looking at sell walls and buy walls you can tell where people think the going will go and see how much of a safety net you have in terms of people wanting to cash out.
