It's very out of my league but I want to take a shot.I get the feeling also that trading desks at places like JPM get the absolute best of the best of the best and it concentrates success because of not only the prestige of the name but the huge compensation they can afford to pay these people. Deutsche Bank, by comparison, has had years and years of trading losses and from what I can remember they have just about abandoned that revenue stream altogether. I've been buying DB for the last few months (up over 40% currently) and have gotten to understand some of the reasons they are in the position they are. Most money managers don't work for hedge funds, which do usually perform very well during recessions. Instead they are just very heavily in US equities and basically have high risk portfolios because of it. They don't typically do much hedging at all and eat shit during downturns like everyone else.
