Litecoin is garbage but Charlie Lee is a smart at marketer, he made a slightly faster version of Bitcoin, diluted the supply (so owning a full coin was cheaper) and sold it as the "silver" to Bitcoin which doesn't make any fucking sense but still caught.

Then he profited from being in charge at Coinbase to list his shitcoin, from that point the network effect was just too big to not become a big boi.

pic related is an incredibly better coin than Litecoin on every aspect
