It’s not that complex. Most of the meatloaf tier IQ retards on here probably won’t understand, but it’s not too bad if you have some coding experience.

Basically you have to determine if it’s an open or closed API first of all. Open API would be anything that doesn’t require you to make an account and and authorize your details with every call(chain link nodes can call these on their own), a closed API is one that requires authentication in the headers of the call. If it’s closed you’ll need to make an external adapter usually.

The actual node is just some code that sits on a computer or in a container and when the Oracle contract (ethereum side of things) sends it a request to bring data onto the blockchain the node will either send the proper GET request to the open API or it will make its external adapter do it through a small Node.js/Python/etc script which does it in the same fashion as non blockchain related code does.

Once the node receives the info it sends it to the oracle script. Once reputation and all that are set up, the oracle contract would technically request info from more than one node that is registered as supplying the info that’s needed and that’s what makes it decentralized.
