I have two 90 minute interview for a quantitative finance analyst position on Wednesday

I am a physicist by profession and literally everything i know about finance comes from screenshots of Nassim Taleb's twitter feed i see on 4chan, which was enough to get me an interview but not, i fear, enough to let me pass it

whats the most effective way to cram for this assessment before wednesday?

Just look up the biz schizo "42" copypasta and memorize it word for word. You literally will get hired, probably directly to CEO like Robert California in the office

don't even worry about it

finance is babby tier math. if you can learn physics you'll be so far ahead of finance grads. same for compsci. Your infinitely more useful than someone who just took marketing and accounting classes.

if you can calculate simple math with interest rates you understand finance

im not worried about the actual work, more like if they ask me some specific question about some meme finance metric ive never heard of like
"How would you calculate a Schzultz-Morgenstein risk factor for this stock"
then ill be stumped

>> No.17040478

>>17040180
Just ask questions about that help you realize what metric is being measured and then relate it back to a physics problem. Remember, these types of interviews are about skills + the ability to work as a team / communicate quantitative ideas.

As for studying, check out quant net and maybe post there asking this same question

I work at an elite trading company; I think we have single digit numbers of finance graduates in the entire place and they all work in business developement/back office

Traders are 95%+ math physics or cs majors, stay woke

tell them "wha...i'm a physicist bro. gimmie that shit and lemmie figure it out nigguh." scribble some shit on a napkin, draw a cock on that shit an pass it in. bingo bango joberino nigger. do it stop being a puss. an alpha would just take the job.

Say something like what differentiates me from your other financial candidates is that i could derive that risk factor from first principles where they have only rote learned it

This is both honestly pretty based advice, anon. That said, this is 100% a LARP. If you actually were autistic enough to be a physicist by trade, you would know better than to ask for help on a racist anime imageboard.

As an accountant who took finance classes I'm telling you right now you are not getting the job. Even if you do they are going to discover quickly you know nothing and let you go.

buy a copy of pic related and read it cover to cover before the interview

do every single exercise on SQLzoo and mention during the interview that you know / taught yourself SQL

Google around to figure out how to use pivot tables and VLOOKUP in Microsoft Excel and mention that you know how to do that as well

godspeed anon

the fact i am autistic enough to be a physicist by trade is exactly why i am asking for help on a racist anime imageboard

anon above is 100% right. don't be afraid to admit that you don't know something. they know you're smart enough to figure it out and not too austistic that you'd try lying and are capable of communicating it.

Hi, im heading a quant team. The questions I typically ask for people outside of finance (engineers, physicist) are basic finance questions, such as:

- name me a few asset classes
- what is volatility?
- give me the rough estimate for yhr annualised volatility range for the asset classes above

If you have an option pricing background :

- what's implied vol
- which models do you know
- how do you calibrate those models to the market

>> No.17043538

>>17041101
nobody is looking for someone who can "do" physics. it just means you can learn complex topics quickly. unless his study included building stochastic dynamical models and statistics, hes screwed. typically its grads who have the requisite background in functional analysis to apply sophisticated analysis to financial models of risk.

>> No.17043585

Relax nigga. If it's a quant role then all you'll be is an algo babysitter/janitor so you'll just sit in some office and be told not to touch or break anything while the company can boast about how they employ only the brightest STEM grads

They know this as well, so they won't sweat you too much
