There has been massive inflation, in assets. Additionally government has managed to make education and healthcare massively more expensive than it otherwise would be, sucking up a lot of that money. Quality hasn't increased, but they have managed to lower everyone's living standard without them realizing it, because nominal pay hasn't fallen an everyone can still buy cheap food and Chinese consoomer junk.
