Anybody else here work two jobs? How you all holding up?

I work two because I am a workaholic and have to pay 600/mo in student loans on top of 850/mo for rent, so that's already almost half of my monthly income right there without it. I just work part time at a grocery store once or twice a week.

You either have to reduce your costs on increase your income somehow if you want to maintain this. Especially the student loan scam sucks since there's really nothing you can do to reduce or get rid of it any time soon.

I live in a very small room with barely any personal space right now so I can save money. I've reduced my total monthly expenses to around 700 total. It isn't a fun way to live, but it's a way out.

Good luck bro

Unironically living with your parents is probably THE most efficient way to have any kind of savings though it can be quite soul crushing

Pretty nice. I'd love to reduce my rent costs, but I'm petty much living in the cheapest housing I can find without having to up the amount of people I live with, or sharing a room. My last living arrangement resulted in me being robbed, so I'm not too keen to live with any strangers.

I've done a really good job of reducing my expenses though. Finally cut out a third of my food budget by eating out less. I wish I had done it earlier, I'd have so much more money by this point. Oh well. My current plan is to do nothing but work and lift, and hopefully that will get me to a better life.

I'm thinking about working an extra job every 2nd weekend but damn then I would work 12 days straight, free 2 days and then 12 days straight again. That's too much, I am low energy

But as a follow up, you don't feel great about it. I have one day off a week, and it is stressful because I have to get everything I need done in that one day. I rarely do, top tired

I don't. I think it's starting to get to me. Been doing this for a while now, since I started working part time in college a few years ago, graduated but kept the second job when I got a contract position, and now I'm permanent and keep it.

It's not too awful, I work produce and I like who I work with, but yeah I think I'm fatigued

only if your parents are piece of shit boomers. If my kids are grown, have jobs and want to live with us they are more than welcome to. All i ask is that they do their best to get ahead in life and not have to abide by mr.shekelberg's whims. The second they turn into useless fat tendie eating neets they are getting the boot

I think that's fair game. I'd love to live at home, but my parents really tax my emotions and also love too far for me to find a good job, so that's why I pay so much for rent. But the world is so fucking hard, I think only bad parents don't let their kids live at home. I'd be rich if I didn't pay rent desu

When I was 21 I used to work an office job (7 hours, 1 hour unpaid lunch, 2 hour commute, 34k) then a night manufacturing job (7.5 hours at 16 bucks an hour).

I would get like 4 hours of sleep a night, and sleep on weekends. It's not worth it. I ended up getting a contract office job a few years later where I was getting $37/hr and putting in 55-60 hours constantly. Then I just saw the more I worked, the more taxes the govt took, and that killed all motivation.

Right now I'm 28 and making a comfy 65k with 4 weeks vacation, 37.5 hour wrk week.

Nuh, only one job that's 55 miles away, that keeps me there from 8-5, and then its another hour+ drive home, and it only pays $13.50/hr despite being government work. The only "nice" part is that there's always overtime, so I can stay late here and there to bump my paycheck up to $800 after taxes. And unless I want to work at Burger King, Dollar General, or a warehouse, no, there's nothing closer. Welcome to Appalachia

Eh. I own a house and I still pay hundreds of dollars a month in taxes and additional maintenance/utilities that comes with moving from a small apartment to a ~1,300 sqft house.

It's so much nicer not to hear the neighbors, but it hasn't been some magical financial windfall. It depends on what part of the country/world you're buying in though. I'm in MCOL/LCOL USA where rents aren't that crazy so there wasn't much to gain by buying.

>> No.16920100

>>16920011
True but you're still gaining an asset. It's not that bad to own, imho. I unfortunately reside in a high rent area where home values all start at 300k for a condo so idk what to do lol

>> No.16920212

>>16920100
Yes, you are correct-ish. I actually bought the house using an I/O loan with a buyout provision (a "pledged asset line" on existing equities I had) so I'm only paying $650/mo in mortgage, but I also don't build equity unless I pay extra although I do get to pocket any profit if/when I sell in the future.

I've been putting the extra money into /smg/ boomer style investments (VTI, VOO, VXUS, VNQ, VNQI) so for the time being I basically am invested at 90% equities with a margin loan (fixed, not pegged to LIBOR) that's currently "invested" in the house.

You are correct though that for most folks it makes a lot more sense. I just got really lucky with my situation and the city my job is in (not remote; I work in a factory).

Was basically me bragging and being a shit.
I got there by wage-slaving for 14 years and saving 25-35% of my post-tax every year by living like a monk and investing during one of the best bull runs in market history. I'm not asking anyone to feel sorry for some asshole (me) that has a house and a nice set of investments, but my /soc/ cautionary advice is to try to avoid the "monk" part because it's hard to undo that after that long.
