so I'm currently taking out loans (maximum amount) to go to college but it's because i want to have a job I actually enjoy. I've been programming as a hobby for about a decade, and I'm hoping that after getting a mathematics degree maybe I'll be marketable enough to make it worth it. >18 year olds don’t know shit and are pressured by their parents/society to go to college.
I dropped out of college back in 2011 and bought Bitcoin instead. It was hard deciding to go against my parent's wishes and do the opposite of what all my friends and peers were doing.
If Bitcoin had gone to zero I wouldn't have been bailed out: so why should some college student who has an unfair advantage over me get a bail out?
If someone voluntarily enters a position of risk, they are supposed to reap what the sew be it gains or losses. Bailing out losers at the cost of winners is expensive, and thankfully with Bitcoin the majority of money won't be sucked up by losers.

The real villains are the people who downplay student debt or don't warn students enough about it. High school teachers and advisors... FAFSA... college admins. They need to make it clear to students that minimizing their loan burden is key, if that means settling for a shittier school so be it. If that means not going into school at all since your major is shite, so be it.

But they aren't, because this is a massive racket at this point. It's fucking insane. So many kids with shit degrees and $100k+ in debt that continues to grow due to the difficulty of repayment and interest, that's a lifetime of debt servitude, courtesy of the ideologues making up the ranks of modern education. You can't get out of the loan by declaring bankruptcy like you can with any other loan. That's why the comic doesn't make sense. Normally with a loan the lender takes on a risk, but with student debt they have no risk and so are incentivised to loan out for anything. 14 year olds were cannon fodder, that isn't hard to do, and ironically enough your example is par for the same course: old, smart people taking advantage of dumb kids. Kids aren't adults until they're 21, and even then they need some tangible experiences to shape their world view. One could argue that women are never adults since their expectations are half that of men, they go into college not even thinking about how much their major is going to earn because they aren't expected to be breadwinners. Then they're stuck with a mountain of debt and a shite degree.

Interest and compound growth is not something well understood among anybody, so it's a small wonder that kids fresh out of HS don't get it. That shit doesn't just stay there while you're working, it grows, it's a race, if you're underemployed it will be there forever. That isn't conveyed. These threads never seem to center on the real issues. Yes the loans are borderline predatory. But the real problem came for the interaction of the government loan program and the school pricing. The truth is these schools are dramatically overcharging and if anything there should be class action lawsuits against the SCHOOLS. Expecting tax payers to bail out the dupes in the scam is deeply unfair, and stiffing the banks amounts to the same thing as the FED would absolutely have to bail them out debasing our money. A lot of these schools have gotten rich as fuck. Claw back some of the money from them and, regulate how much they can charge for their shitty 'service.' Moving forward I would say we could put the burden of backing student 'loans' on the school. They teach you without up front cost, (they decided you were worth educating after all.) And then they can charge you loan payments after they turn you into a profitable worker. If they chose to turn out people who aren't making enough money to pay them back they should get defaulted on. This would align incentives and they wouldn't be motivated to ruin peoples lives.

But wait, the loan has a special government-imposed protection against discharge of any kind. so now it's worth it.

Big part of our economy is how much people trust in it and have a positive outlook (currency etc.)
Now we can observe that more and more people put more energy into installing a socialist into office and abolishing the student debt, instead of putting in energy to create a good life for themselves in a good job and being able to repay the debt easily.
This is a big indicator of the people losing trust in the economy and the trust in a empty promises making socialist is about to eclipse it.

This post is accurate. As much as /biz/ likes to LARP otherwise, it's not easy to find a decent job without going to college (unless nepotism), and it's REALLY not easy to graduate college with little to no debt.

If you want to go to grad school/med school/law school for an advance degree, which is all but required for advanced careers, you're going to need to go into student loan debt. That's the way it's supposed to be.

I'd love to meet the retarded that LARP otherwise. I guarantee it's mostly poorfags/dropouts.

The issue with student loans is that colleges are too expensive, they aren't free, kids tend to be forced into going to college (thus being forced to take debt they won't be able to pay off effectively, and loan interest is so fucking predatory that it should honestly be outlawed.

I graduated and put 10k into my 27k loan over the course of a few years and the damn thing only went down by 5k because apparently the interest accrued at a really high rste despite me never missing a payment and paying above the bare minimum monthly fee.

I don't blame people for wanting to just not pay their loans under these circumstances, especially since the democrats are now promising to try and wipe out student loan debts.

In my mind it's less about that, and more about the fact that if they admit degrees are the only things that matter they are opening the door to actual discussion about university being a ponzi scheme and to it being a form of class warfare.

If you go to a good college and get a good education everyone will want to hire you supposedly, so if you can't pay the loans for some reason and they take away your degree why should that change? If what you learned at school and the people you know is a supposedly useful thing for your job, then employers should absolutely still be willing to hire you even if the college revoked your degree. If just "officially" losing your degree in name is enough to kill your hiring potential, then that means literally everything you learn in college is bullshit and that corporations only care about official documentation of slavery training for white collar jobs. Which also has further implications, why will they go to any length to hire undocumented workers but they could care less about hiring undocument college graduates? socialists reveal their true sociopath side
there's a reason both words have the same root

violent rants like these are part of the self-destructive nature of socialism - they drive away potential supporters and make rich people hoard more resources to defend themselves with?
Who would win:
-A bunch of angry s0yb0ys
-Jeff Bezos and his private army backed by a fleet of Amazon drones

Why the absolute fuck is nobody here talking about the primary reason tuition is so expensive?

Government student loans and grants.

Without this shit the price would fall through the floor.
It used to be really cheap in the 50s and 60s.

This is the real problem here. If colleges are going to be so god damn expensive, then they should at least be interest free to a certain point.

18 year olds that have mostly been infantalized by their government brainwashing camps called schools. What were they taught? TRUST YOUR GOVERMENT? Who is offering them the loan? Who set up the loans so that they can never be paid off for most people, making it SLAVERY. Do you see the goddamn problem.

So let me get this straight:
>You're good at math
>You're good at programming

What's the degree for? Dickswinging in bars? I've got a programming job and I suck at math. I still earn more than the median family by myself. You don't need 200k debt to get a decent job. In programming and math only two things matter:
>the math checks out
>the maintainable program works

Lol, you clearly have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. it's actually an expellable offense in any american school to criticize certain functions of the american government. You have free speech everywhere in America as a minor except public schools. I personally have been through this multiple times, in highschool I was expelled from my school for over a week for criticizing school administrators on the misuse of funding in the school, misuse of school funds for superintendent pay, and the lack of education standards. Law makers have imposed this restriction of rights under the auspices of school children being minors and preventing a disruption of the school enviroment. Did you know corporations aren't allowed to advertise in american schools, but politically aligned non-profit organizations are?

Also it most definitely is the government handing out these loans. Please look up FAFSA for me and tell me what the F stands for.

Debt as financial instruments are valued principally by the certainty that they will be paid so as to generate cash flows. A lot of it is hypothetical, "hoping" the debts will be paid off, but just as much rooted in mathematically calculated risk.

As mentioned already, student loans are the only type of debt that does not allow the declaration of bankruptcy if the debt is literally unable to be paid. Naturally, debt instruments structured around student loans are valued with this crucial piece of information in mind. As far as they're concerned, the debt is solid because it can't "officially" be declared worthless, despite it being worthless in its very substance. If that were to change, and somehow the loan terms changed, or the debt was discharged through emergency legislation or what have you, all those debt instruments structured around student loans become instantly worthless and they now actually HAVE to be written off as such from company books.

It is my firm belief that student loans will literally be the Housing Crisis 2: Hebrew Boogaloo, just on a much more massive scale. The whole racket of student loans extends its dirty corrupt tendrils into every facet of the economy, from the politicians to the educators to the dirty investors, all complicit in this fucking shit.

I misunderstood you. I thought you meant that the government was lending the money. Yes, the government is offering the loans, but it's other entities holding the loan.
My point is- no, there is no conspiracy by the government to hold students in debt, as you were suggesting. Private entities are the ones gaining interest from student loans.
>I personally have been through this multiple times, in highschool I was expelled
You sound like a crazy conspiracy theorist.
>>16919022
What about them? What does that have to do with paying back the loan? If the person who took out the loan can't pay it back, then they made a stupid decision and suffers for it. It's not exclusive to student loans.
>>16919151
>Housing Crisis 2
It's not a novel idea, but there is less alarm about it, because of several reasons. One of them is that the loans are distributed over time, so it's a slow burn, and not a sudden crash. The issue has been around for a while, so markets and regulations had time to react.
