can you guys go into more detail or point me towards some good videos in regards to the best way(s) to use options to trade earnings? i already know about EarningsWhispers (god there are so many good resources for all sorts of things financial out there, entirely for free too. only learned about EW a month or so ago. it's really just a matter of putting in the time to look for them).

im currently focused on automating my scalping strategy which i hope to have completed by the end of the year (will probably have it before that, i have some coding experience already but have never made something this serious before). my plan is to make enough money from that to pay my bills and then any extra money i have left over i can invest manually into high probability swings setups, which earnings looks like a good, repeatable one. happens multiple times every year with regularity. setups like this would be over a day or week and i would manage them by hand instead of automatically since it would require a lot more FA instead of TA.

Would you say Tesla is THE electric car game in town? Their growth is a little too much for me, and wonder if bad news or competition would bring it down just as fast. I do not experience these "losses" you speak of cuz SOXL is the answer. Face it. Semiconductors are crack in all but name. The desire for newer, faster, more is insatiable. Computers, GPUs, self-driving electric cars, AI enhanced smartphones, medical devices, microcontrollers, networkinging gear, machine learning, surveillance, infrastructure, military, the list is endless. No matter how many cores, how fast or efficient, demand requires bigger, faster, cheaper, and better. The clamor for fresh silicon gives nary shit for national identity, creed, hue, gender, asshole virginity or other vain conceit; the multitude speaks in singular. The plea: semiconductor.
SOXL couples a single ETF entry point with the the best companies the semiconductor space has to offer then pushes these already stellar returns to the limit with 3x leverage, all responsibly managed via daily rebalancing to boot. SOXL aligns your economic interests with powerhouses like Nvidia, Qualcomm, Intel, Broadcom, Micron, Texas Instruments, Applied Materials, et al. Real tech companies with innovative products people want, not """tech""" """companies""" pushing shitty ads.
In the last 7 years, SOXL has exploded over 42x yet still we are early. Semiconductor growth will proceed exponentially until every viable space is saturated with it. This is a fait accompli; the sheer number of interested parties and obviously compelling outcomes make it so. The injection of increasingly compact and efficient sensors, microcontrollers, information processing, and storage into everywhere and everything will be this era's seminal revolution, a revolution with SOXL holders planted firmly at the receiving end.
Stop waiting for the "pullback". Where we're going, fretting over a few dollars is meaningless. The deliberation is over; waiting is a failure mode. Now. Buy it now.

It's been going up since 2009 and yes it will continue
Central Bank of Japan printed 150% of GDP in the last 10 years,
Japan government debt close to 300% yet they are still close to zero inflation and they say they have a lot room to ease
Switzerland printed 100%+ of their GDP in the last 10 years, imposed negative rates of -0.8% and their currency just got stronger
What makes anybone believe that the Fed which prints US$ - the world reserve currency cannot get to those numbers?
Current balance sheet is just 25% of GDP
But because the US$ is a reserve currency they can probably sustain 100% of the world GDP which I believe is around 80 trln
Yes it seems crazy but get back 10 years ago and think about what we have now - it seemed totally crazy that central bank will monetize federal debt
So in our lifetime this charade can easily be sustained
They will just print 1 trln per year maybe increasing this number 10% per year. It will get stocks 10-20% per year growth on average indefinitely

Tesla can be dubious though. They advertised their cars to get free charging, then sales went up so they started charging, sales stayed well enough and charging price was increased, then sales slowed down and they started doing free charging again. Certain gas powered cars are cheaper off the lot and are able to get comparable priced mileage as Tesla when they charge for their stations. I feel like Telsa could lose their grip just as easy as blockbuster or Myspace did when someone else comes along with the answer to all the grievances people have.

The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) announced on Jan. 7 that 5,000 executives and employees of a Chinese health food and equipment manufacturing company in Shenyang will visit Korea on incentive tours for six days until Jan. 12. This is the largest group of Chinese tourists since 2017 when China banned group tours to South Korea in the wake of the Seoul government’s decision to install the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system.

Korean duty-free shops and cosmetics companies, which had been heavily dependent on Chinese tourists, have been in a long slump since the ban.

Do any of you guys follow the yieldco side of renewable energy that much? I'm not talking the little no-name panel manufacturers, or Siemens/vestas, I mean like the big-ass companies who just buy up developments with REC contracts or other long-term contracted revenue and just take in the cash.

Stuff like TERP, Brookfield (BAM/BEP), and etc. I'm honestly thinking about just dumping 30k into one of them and not selling for 20 years because my gut tells me they'll be the ones left after all the small fish out-compete themselves to death. Even someone like NextEra will probably just end up absorbing tons of smaller projects to supplement its own utility-scale renewable development.

I have got a question on put credit spreads if anyone can help me out. Suppose stock ABC is trading at 50$ a share. Suppose we have two puts that expire on the same date, lets say the 60$ and 70$ strikes.

The 60$ put costs 10$ a share and the 70$ put costs 20.50$ a share, for the sake of argument. This is an arbitrage opportunity, isn't it? Sell the 70$ strike, and buy the 60$ strike. You will have to make at least .50$ a share (20.50-10). Do I have this right?

Most have had good earnings rallies at one point or another. APHA's last earnings "beat" was a product of slippery, but still legal, accounting. The problem is the Canadian dudes are facing significant headwinds and valuations are falling closer to what these companies are actually worth relative to their assets and revenue. The growth isn't great for a variety of reasons. They certainly could come out with a better than expected quarter and pump 20% off that but I doubt.

How risky are shorts really?
Every time I bring them up with my family or our CPA everyone gets this fucking shiver down their spine for some reason.
It still seems just like the basic certainty and uncertainty calculation oh, so your risk is only really how much you are uncertain * 2.
For instance Spirit aerosystems, ticker symbol s p r, had 50% of their work orders as the max 737. Not only that but the majority of their inventory are completed orders, hangers with planes that will never fly. They're the company that fired 2800 of their employees a few days ago.
All in all, chances are their share price is going to plummet. I would say I'm about 95% certain of it.

No one is saying you CAN'T make money from shorting, but the trend is your friend, institutions, money managers etc. are long equities and many are just buying the indices, the fed is providing them with extra liquidity to do just that.

Just remember to keep your bets SMALL. If you know a lot about that company, maybe you know what you're doing. Make sure to keep a stoploss in case they announce something that would absolutely fuck you over. Maybe they get contracted with another company or the govt gives them some bailout, who the fuck knows. They could just get dragged up by the movement of the index because of ETFs.

I think it's a bull sign, if anything. China's gommunism is finally starting to show its true colors even to the rest of the world. It was never about making everyone equal but making a very select few people stunningly rich through lawless capitalism, slave labor and dishonest business ethics. The fact that they're opening themselves up means they'll have even higher gains while they gobble other nations up.

>>16831612
>They are only ideological when it suits them, they've been pragmatists for a generation at least.

this.

Quick question about trade exit strategy. I'll hit my target % profit very soon (30%) but the trend has not slowed down at all, it has picked up new steam if anything and I would hate to miss out on gains (I know it's impossible to sell at the very top, but hold on). I've read about taking partial profit and letting the trade run but I'm not comfortable with that. What do you think about setting a stop loss based on the lowest point hit by that stock in a month during a flash sell? This would secure 50% of my profits without closing part of the trade and enabling higher gains while riding the trend upward. If the trend continues, I'll set the stop loss a bit higher intro profits. I check on my stonks daily, so it's difficult to catch me with my pants down, so to speak. Trailing stop loss I use, but with short-term investments, I like to give my long trades room to breathe. Opinions?

I understand what he's saying and I appreciate playing larger and safer trends through intelligent investment and conservative risk aversion.
All I was asking and was really saying was that there's a lot of things that are far from uncertain that would be good shorts, using this company as an example that just had 50% of their work order is cancelled and 60% of their inventory turned into very complex scrap metal.
My question was largely just, why should I not short this stock, and you answered by saying that you can't really be that certain because you don't know if there could be some form of bailout or some unforeseen announcement that totally alleviates the drop in share price.

But I make 90k, I bought a 250K house with 20% down. Hard to compare between different regions/areas though.
Any interest rate under 4% fixed is genuinely good. Better than renting in a lot of cases.

Thank you for this recommendation. What great insights so far!
>>16834797
She's been working 3+ years, so it's within reason. The kicker is she bought a house 13 months ago. $195K - a reasonable ranch for a single individual, albeit I thought overpriced at the time (let's pretend pic related, but on a tiny corner lot of suburbia).
Well, that's not good enough, so she wants something about 50% bigger and is paying nearly twice as much because 'wow! Look how much my house has appreciated!)
Never mind you she'll lose her ass on realtor fees, moving and closing costs, and any increase in market value is going to become a 2X expense as she moves up in price. In other words, she's drooling over listing her house for + $25K (how can a home appreciate nearly 10% in a year?!!!!), but in the meantime, the house she bought she's probably paying $50K more than she would have last year.

You and I are in the same boat, I bought around 25 as well. Been here 7 or so years and it'll be paid off next year. Bought around $150k. It's a shithole, but I'm $18K away from being 100% debt free and funneling every penny into retirement or the mortgage.
Contrast that with my sister, a kid wrapping herself up in debt for a house.
As I look back, personal real estate isn't an investment. You mitigate rent costs, but you end up hoping in the end to break even after taxes, insurance, repairs, and inflation.

I remember my first apartment being $600 only a decade ago.

I trade index futures and it works the same way as trading index ETFs. Only difference is futures trades almost 24 hours a day, you can day trade with insane leverage like 20 or 30x, tax treatment is super sweet (you only pay taxes on the difference of your whole account at year's end and it's 60/40 longterm/short term capital gains), no such thing as wash trading, and some other stuff. I highly recommend anybody who likes to trade open a futures account. It'll blow your mind and if you are good you'll end up rich talking shit on underwater basket weaving forums like me

https://www.ampfutures.com/ is your friend. $100 account minimum and you can day trade the micro Russell 2000 with $25 margin. Naturally if you are going to start this low it's gonna be tough but it is possible. I started with $600 just to test the waters way back when and I never blew up my account even with all the leverage and sometimes I had positions open that were 40x. I was very very careful though. That's one of the beauties of futures. If you're small money but really careful and talented you can come up quick. Amp is great with the low minimums, low day trade margins, but they also have (I think) the lowest round trip fees in the industry. Buying a selling a single contract (~$8000 notional value) only sets you back 78 cents or so. Compare that to trading on a bitcoin exchange where an $8000 buy and sell will typically set you back $40. You can see how the fees are drastically less in futures. I'm not an Amp shill but you asked

So if bitcoin is $8000 and you buy you are automatically in the hole until the price hits $8040 not even counting the spread. FUUUUUUCCCCKKKKK that. I wouldn't assume it has anything to do with "the shorts," just simple supply and demand. Someone wants to load up on shares pre-market when there aren't so many sellers, and they are willing to pay a premium to do so. One normal trading hours begin, the price drops because you have the normal array of sellers.
