They are. Historically speaking there are plenty of reasons why the US market has had an upward trend for the last 100 years, and the fed isn't the only one of them. Our population has increased exponentially, and new and emerging technologies mean that new industries and wealth are being added to the economy along with plenty of the old stable ones. Our cost of living has gone up because the definition of "basic necessities" has come to include electricity, indoor plumbing, heating and air conditioning, a cell phone and internet connection, and an automobile, in addition to food and shelter. The stock market keeps going up because America's wealth and influence both domestic and international continue to grow. Recessions and depressions are still a part of the cycle, but if you ever think the US stock market will stop growing than you must also think that US will lose its status as a world power soon.

It's certainly possible, but if that ever than we probably have bigger problems, which is why it's important to have gold and silver.
