>I don't know what to say to your message
>proceeds to post what he should say to my message

that's basically what i wanted to know lol. im on AMTD and they sent me an email about /MES so i got curious. idk how reasonable it would be for me to switch from screening for stocks to day trade and instead solely day trade the /ES but my initial impressions are that it basically solves the problems of liquidity (enough volume to trend and to be able to get in and out at the prices i want with however many shares/contracts/whatever i want to trade), time restrictions (normal market hours vs. 24/6), and news (it's the S&P500 so it should be active pretty much all the time instead of a lot of stocks which are hot some days and then go nowhere for a long time with few trades happening). the 24/6 is the biggest deal for me, i have a full time job and i don't like forex because the big banks control price there instead of people (fiat currencies don't have intrinsic value and the supply is limitless), E-mini's are looking like a great alternative that I could potentially day trade before or after work, that would still work basically like stocks do.

also the HFT stuff, i meant that HFT's can fuck with price trends making things less predictable, not that I would personally use an HFT or something. i was mostly wondering how much trouble they cause or if they're not really a big deal and i shouldn't worry about them.

found this guy while looking for more info, let me know what you think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8y3VvyQZ38&list=PLZpt37abrD9FuCt6blOvO7Own1XB9xVRt [Embed] only half way through the first video on the playlist and i like the way he thinks so far

It probably wouldn't even reach your strike price. I don't know what possessed you to try to go against this company but good luck trying to get out of that mess without taking a major loss. i feel like if you have billions and billions of dollars you should probably just DCA the SPY. if you only have tens of thousands of dollars like me you get much better gains actively daytrading. of course you can't actively day trade with a billion dollars though, big difference between the tutes and retail in terms of what you can get away with consistently.

Just look at performance of oil stocks for their lifetime. ExxonMobil was $36 at bottom of dotcom burst. At its peak it was like $90 something. So 3x over that period. Now consider literally any tech stock. Far higher gains for that time period. The benefit of oil is suppose to be the dividends hence offering profit in a key component of the country (energy). Except as soon as oil tanks they all cut their dividends. So you dont get the dividend benefit and you get poor growth.

it's an extremely important distinction to make, between funds that manage literally BILLIONS of dollars that they're trying to get that percentage on, vs. a retail trader with THOUSANDS of dollars.

indices are where you want to be if you just give 0 fucks about any of this trading nonsense and just want consistent but smallish gains over 30+ years. if you honestly don't think you can't get more than 10% a year trading actively with an account in the tens-hundreds of thousands range, idk why you're even here tbhwy.

Yeah they are better than specific stocks, having to look for daily stocks to trade takes time and that's why I also started trading e-minis back when I had a job. It's basically like having a "main" to trade rather than several "alts". I don't know if you have ever touched Bitcoin with thousands of altcoins behind it tracking its every move, but it's roughly the same feeling.. much more comfy to simply sit there and trade the MAIN one that controls almost the entire market rather than small specific ones.
I watched parts of that video and I guess there's some good information but I have a feeling what he's doing is more of a short term thing since the ranges he keeps on showing can happen within a few minutes/hours. If you're working for example you won't have time to check for patterns and keep a track of what's happening on the charts. What worked for me was to learn price action trading, how to locate trends and strong resistance/support levels. As soon as I learned that along with risk management and to have a good overall trading mentality it went straight uphill. Personally, I would never take the time to look for things like double tops and almost purely patterns. I'm not saying it won't work, but for me some of his ideas about trading would break some of the rules I have which in my eyes would make even a successful trade an unsuccessful trade.

Sorry it takes some time for me to respond, doing shit on the side

who else /magic analysis/ ?

today's card of the day is STRENGTH

>This card symbolizes the epitome of the saying, "strength comes from within." As it appears, it's time to gather your emotional resources and face the challenges in your life with power and grace. Brute force won't get you where you want to go. A strong vision and belief in yourself, however, will take you far.

>The woman represented on this card comes forth with a lion by her side—representing zodiac sign Leo. The lion isn't forceful or cruel as it's calmed by Strength's kindness and compassion as she shows the wild animal that love can soothe even the most savage beast. This is especially true when that savage beast is made up of your own fears or insecurities.

honestly wouldn't be surprised at all to see it bottom out here, likely will enter into consolidation/indecision for a bit which is pretty much what it did today. i just want you to note how obvious that orange line i drew at $88.5 is. if you zoom out farther you can see it's had this area as a floor like 4 or 5 times, probably a low risk long trade atm (assuming the fundamentals are strong, again im just looking at the price action).

for the adjustable awesome oscillator i basically made a duplicate of the AO indicator and made it so you can set the 2 MA's to whatever type and whatever period you want, you can even mix and match. it measures whether the distance between 2 MA's is expanding or contracting and thus measures momentum.

I don’t daytrade so I see this as concerning... the strong resistance that should provide support is 85...

This would probably have looked better if i did 88.5 but I’m not an expert with this stuff.

while we're on the subject because again i know nothing of the FA for the company, what caused it to spike down all of a sudden? but i mean you can't tell me it isn't awfully suspicious that it bounced along 88.5 literally all day today and is now going up in AH.

trading is just about high probability setups and risk management, anyways. the nice thing about buying around $88.5 is that you are incredibly de-risked. depending on your time horizon you could just look to sell at the top of the current range (around 89), or the next level up (around 90), or scale out around there and see if it gets all the way back to 92. if it breaks and holds under 88.5 just cut your losses. go 0.50 for a stop loss roughly. this is of course assuming the indicators agree and tell you it's going back up, depends how aggressive you'd want to be with it. you can have a much tighter stop loss at 88.5 is the main point.

not like im in it, just doing this for fun. we'll see if im right or not in time. main reason i ask about what caused it to plummet is that usually spikes are the result of news events, and spikes completely fuck up TA for the most part. averages don't like big outliers, but then again that's always why i go by the midpoint of the bars instead of the close.

Say you're using support to set your stops, first theoretical support down from here is the old resistance at ~86.50. Below that you're looking at anywhere down to 78.60 or so. If you want to do a semi knife catch here and on expectation of that 86 level holding, with stop loss set a hair below, that relatively small risk. I prefer to wait until after support has been tested and held, with volume returning to the buy side on the rebound, enter thereabouts. I'm not a day trader and I look for entries on things that may hold a rising trend for a while from my entry.

yeah i tried going down to the 30m chart to provide more granularity. the buy at 88.5 would be very aggressive right now, it depends whether you like having a tighter stop because you get in early at a better price, or you wait for confirmation to the upside but thus get in at a higher price.

>>16789883
the main thing to remember about support and resistance lines is that they work because people think they work. they're a self-fulfilling prophecy. a lot of things work like this in the markets because people move price: everyone else can see that "floor" that the price bounced off of before. the more times it has held, the more obvious it is, the better (the more relevant it is). so it's not surprising to see that when it dropped so much, it just "coincidentally" happened to bounce off of that floor repeatedly today.

mind you, it's hardly a guarantee or anything, nothing is. but it's a low risk high probability setup if the fundamentals can back it up. but i trade on tick charts and 1m charts and scalp, so my feeling would be that i would buy at 88.5 and if it starts to even look like it won't hold, i'd cut my losses on a candle that closed below support. cut your losers short and let your winners run, as the saying goes.

on the other hand, waiting for confirmation to the upside means the market is proving to you that buyers are stepping up, but you'll get in at a higher price. it means that price could retrace back to 88.5 and if it breaks it and holds beneath it, you lose more than someone who bought at 88.5. but you have the confirmation to the upside behind you, so it's more likely that it will continue up, whereas right now it's still unclear, but that's how getting in early works.

honestly both ways work, you just have to adjust your risk accordingly. if i feel like a price level is strong and the price action is respecting it, i'll often get in early and be willing to cut my losses quickly if necessary. i'll accept a higher likelihood of being wrong because my loss won't be as big as the guy waiting for confirmation, that's one of the major upsides to learning how to use price levels. which are really just about price forming "floors" and "ceilings", where you round to psychologically relevant levels and the more obvious they are the better.

30m seems good so far for looking at the recent price action tbhwy, i can look at the daily too if you really want though. it's currently uptrending with the MA's flipped positive today so that's good at least.

okay so i looked at the daily, and... you're kinda at the top of the range right now. idk what your time horizon looks like but im not a fan of going long at these levels. your absolute bottom is $40, you really wanted to have gotten in around $43. right now you're in an uptrend that's losing momentum hard. i'd like to see it retest and hold above 48-ish. for a longer term swing play if you could get around 46.5 that'd be great. in the 40-43 range would be pretty ideal.

I want some kind of indication we're back in risk-on bullish conditions here and the Iran thing stalls out. Of course Trumper could very well blow all that out of the water with a tweet over the weekend, like Friday right after close just to be extra trolly, so so so. So! Anyway, there are lots of companies sitting around in early rising trend states that could convert to nice lengthy ups in coming weeks. yeah, i don't really need the lines i can just see them. normally looks like this usually, honestly it used to be a lot worse before i put effort into simplifying it.

basically you have two EMA's which show the average price, one quick and one slower. the special AwesomeOscillator (AO) measures whether the faster MA is moving up or down in comparison to the slow, so it shows momentum. blue bars means up purple means down, which side of the zero line they're on tells you whether you're in an uptrend or downtrend (or ranging/flat if they flip a lot without going anywhere). the TTM squeeze is a volatility indicator that is a lot more complicated but basically also shows momentum (the two oscillators are actually pretty similar if you look), and im just trying it out for now. i've heard good things and it looks pretty interesting so far, but it still requires testing from me. the bars being painted red and blue are the TTM trend, they're supposed to show trend direction and also seem interesting. basically im trying out a lot of the TTM stuff now lol.

honestly you can trade just with the 2 EMA's and the momentum between them, but im always looking to see if something can give me a better edge than that.

Well, it's a volatile tech stock and they've missed their last several earnings. Interesting the earnings expectations were around 4x what they actually reported on a few of those. The most recent earnings have expectations closer to what they're actually capable of managing but they still missed that one, too.

They are profitable though, so that's at least something. I wouldn't touch. Too twitchy for me.

Trump to win by a larger margin than last time. All the dems have done these past three years is make themselves look worse than they did in 2016. Might be the most important thing this year, but it doesn't matter until like the last month before the actual voting happens. Me as neutral as I can be as a non-american (even though I'm probably way more active on this subject than most americans either way) can say Trump will win by probably an even larger margin than before. People EXPECT Bernie to do well against Trump if he actually wins the dem primary, but they also expected Corbyn from the UK to do very well against Boris. Keep in mind that Boris has been in politics for a while and has all kind of bad rumors floating around him, not as bad as Trump but still bad.. but he absolutely crushed Corbyn which people claimed would put up a fight. The truth of the matter is that there's the right spectrum of voters and the left spectrum of voters and then we have the centrist voters in the middle, the centrists are always the tie breakers in elections for obvious reasons and as soon as they realize/understand (if they haven't already) that Bernie will actually increase their taxes by probably double + annual tax increases to support the ideas he has promised because everything can't come from the rich.. they will turn to Trump in an heartbeat even though some of them might not even like him. Nobody except dumb people wants to cut their paycheck by 20-40% depending on how much Bernie would actually increase it, nobody.
Also, people have to keep in mind that Bernie has never been very clear that he will increase taxes on everyone. There's tiny interviews about it as far as I know but he haven't stood on stage in a debate and said it to the people directly. As soon as he brings it up or Trump brings it up then it's just game over.

That's my hot non-american take on it. Oh and just to add, imagine the markets if Bernie wins. Less money for consumers, extreme restrictions on banks and way higher taxes on wallstreet, etc etc. The markets would tank harder than AMD tanked during the fucking dot-com bubble

It’s like if you’re running a three card money street scam, you want someone in the crowd to be in on it, and you’ll let them win, just to show everyone it isn’t rigged. But really, they’re in on it and you’re just giving them their cut. It’s all arranged beforehand.

These people probably have discord groups or some shit.

What makes P&F charts unique is that they do not account for the discrete passage of time as most other types of chart do along their x-axes.

We're not on Stocktwits. No one on ST said there would be a buyout tomorrow. He only said that here and even if everyone here bought it tomorrow it wouldn't do much.

Hey guys just scheduled a wire transfer over to TD Ameritrade to add +40%~ give or take to my AMC purchase. Bought it at $8.16 and hoping I can grab some more sub $7 when markets opened I set my alarm bright and early so I'll be ready for it.

FWIW this is the only stock I've ever purchased most of my money is in crypto

So I'm an AMC A-list subscriber. Over the summer I was at AMC on a weekday afternoon and noticed a whole bunch of solo flyers, much like myself, many of whom indulged in the $9 popcorn or however much it costs. Thought to myself that this subscription seems to be the right direction, and AMC is doing it sustainably (I was a moviepass subscriber previously). Thought popped into my head that this company, which I also really enjoy, might also be quite undervalued. Did some digging and saw AMC had a pretty impressive dividend. Told myself I'd keep researching and stay sidelined to see if it fell around the $8 (10% yield) mark (was about $12 over the summer iirc).

Well, as I watched I got increasingly bullish: all the fundamentals are there. Attendance at all-time high, profits up, debt refinanced, everything adds up. Icing on the cake is the sunset of the bill that prevents studios from acquiring theaters. I think there has already been some acquisitions of smaller corps, and if Disney or Netflix bids on AMC, it'll be a huge payout. If AMC gets bought out at a similar cost/screen, that's a share price of around $25.

And I'm a firm believer that streaming is a bubble. Netflix quality of experience continues to decline as they replace TV and Hollywood films with first party bullshit. Everyone is trying to replicate this model with increasingly low quality productions. I don't see the trend sustaining itself, and all the research suggests that streaming doesn't endanger theaters.

Not to mention theaters boom during recession, which might come sooner rather than later.

Nope, I don't trade that way. Not for stocks or crypto. I wait until there is a sufficient build of volume on rising price, at which point I hop in, ride it up until I get a sell signal or get stopped out. Rinse and repeat. I have learned that trying to time the bottom is low percentage and runs contrary to my main trading rule: no bagholding. By that I mean I set a stop loss immediately upon entry to give it the amount of space I think it needs and am willing to give it. If the price hits that stop, I'm out at a small loss end of story.

>> No.16792345

>>16792324
Selling assets is a fairly neutral scenario. Neither bullish or bearish unless the company is giving up an important revenue source to avoid bankruptcy (which is super bearish).

Also further to this, if the amount of wiggle room I think it needs to do its thing while still in whatever trend it's in is greater than amount of risk (as a percentage) I willing to take with any amount of money, I don't do the trade. Say if the stock is some small cap that regularly engages in 20% swings up and down, I will usually skip it.
