Just me but I gotta feeling WW3 will be a very real thing shortly. All it takes is a few more "incidents" and wham its on. Iraqi is pushing the U.S out, Iran has said it's gonna ramp up it's nuke capability and retaliate against the U.S for the killing of that general dude. The U.S has stated if Iran does anything 52 targets in Iran will be blown to hell. Hell some missiles got shot off and landed in the iraqi green zone (U.S embassy, other buildings there) from some unknown location.

If I had to guess what the average person would do if they were given money to day trade is they would buy things that are rapidly going up in price and ride them out until they started dropping and then panic sell them to avoid losing everything.

i did it, and i don't feel like im that smart. i just find the stuff fascinating and dumped a ton of time into it. in all honesty it's pretty simple to do at the end of the day, i feel like most of my time was starting with things being really complex and all of my work was in trying to simplify my system and eliminate the unnecessary things. it's so odd how it's both the hardest and easiest thing you'll ever do, at the same fucking time.

simple answer: yes. the common thought behind being new to trading is that you should be strictly paper trading for at least 1 whole year before doing ANYTHING with real money. after that when you're confident with your edge, which you should have extensively backtested with historical data (basically charts of days that already happened), you start trading with really small amounts of money. when i started day trading i was only trading around $1k at a time. that's like 10 shares of ROKU for example, where 1% is only $10.

if you can't be profitable with $1k then you should in no way be trading bigger money. if you can't be profitable, CONSISTENTLY profitable, in paper trading, you shouldn't even use real money.

the key is to take your time and have patience, become a financial education sponge and learn everything you can, then test the shit out of it. i don't care whether you're a scalper or a swing trader or a position trader managing a portfolio like a one man hedge fund. if you're betting the farm with no experience you're a fucking retard.

it should make sense logically, right? you wouldn't do open heart surgery on a live patient on your first day at med school would you? think of it that way. you don't want to kill your life savings.

Considering when I first started I had 27 years in front of me.. They've flown by quick as hell to. God, so near yet still a ways to go. No mater what, loopholes or no loopholes, I'll be out at age 50. Then I got options. Can kick back and do nothing or if I get bored I can work some part time gig and tell the management to fuck off if they bother me to much without worry about any blow back on me financial wise. Can you imagine? Working some gig and being able to just say fuck you without worrying about bills or shit after you quit. The freedom.. Soon very soon it'll be mine.

No, he made the argument for, quit, wagie, and buy the index fund because you'll never in a million years be able to pick and win at stocks.

Lets say you start small with $1k. After a year the most you can lose is $1k and one year's worth of time after which you'll be no wiser and the market will be completely different so quit while you're ahead and save yourself the time (and money)

Actually this was just an ordinary swing entry for me well before all the Iran brouhaha. I expected a possible retry at the September high just on technicals of the gold/oz and gold futures charts + finding out that gold demand from international banks for 2019 and last bit of 2018 was unusually high, fear about the market in general in light of the repo stuff and soft GDP numbers. Initial entry on certain miners was December 3 with additional monies added after I saw a higher low form on the daily around December 13 and 16.

That's actually good news.

https://www.tesmanian.com/blogs/tesmanian-blog/tesla-filed-a-new-patent-automotive-perforated-insulated-glass-structure

Layer 206 is SPD if I recall from pervious patents. I am looking it up now.

This is the actual patent filing for this one...

http://patents.justia.com

I remembered correctly

LAYER 206 is the tint layer or SPD.

Big news for REFR... reported a -0.01 cent loss per share last quarter.. down from -0.03 quarter previous.. need I remind you of the new factory in Stuttgart Germany?

This company has never been profitable in it's 50 year history and is on the verge, and now this news? REFR is a definite buy and hold at this price

Also, AGP eGlass is the auto glass supplier for Tesla.. connect the dots..

Sure sure, but as long as easing cycles continue worldwide...

And there are rumblings that the fed may switch from targeting momentary 2% inflation, to cyclical 2% inflation. Meaning, since we’ve been under 2% for much of the cycle, they’ll want to overshoot.

That alone could spike the gold even higher.

And then if they actually do manage to get inflation to rise, there’s always a chance it might runaway a bit and overshoot dramatically.

I also heard some smartypants jagoff bank guy or something talking about how silver may be poised to outperform good this year, since it’s been so miserable for so long.

And palladium demand keeps outpacing supply...

(Shit I need to start making more money so I can by more things. Accumulate assets.)

Depends on the strat you want to go for.

Mostly, people invest in divvy stocks hoping that they maintain their value relative to inflation while paying out relative to inflation.
There are companies that focus on growth rather than higher dividends.
My humble opinion, if you are going to invest in a company that's not focused on a moderate dividend or you want to go for one that is more growth focused, then don't go into dividends.
Playing the middle road here will not give you what you're looking for.

That said, index funds are just aggregations of a huge lot of stocks. Best returns are gained by investing in good companies for life through divvys. Don't try to index on divvys, but you can invest in a regular fund that pays divvys, just don't think that you'll be getting the passive income that you want.

I think only if it turns in to something really bad that threatens trading relationships. It will probably be fine even if it gets to Obama administration levels of air strikes or Bush administration "mission (not) accomplished". Domestic fiscal issues are more important. It's impulsiveness mostly, add to that that most people around is quite uneducated about everything and you've got why. I was also surprised about the high % of people that lost money on the stock market, which is why I took my time learning about it like a turboautist for a couple of months before starting. I started on a "social trading platform" that's quite popular here in europe, it's an online trading platform that has this retarded fb-like news feed. If what they post is true, 95% of them are gambling on crypto, a good number of them with leverage. Also commodities when they know absolute nothing about that kind of market other than "it's oil so it's going to go up!!!11 xd". It's really no wonder why most people lose money. Now, consider investing is easier than ever: technology has opened new venues of income for brokers just like widespread internet use became a normal thing when the first smartphones came out. I'm willing to bet the % of people that lose money on the market has gone way up in the last 10 years.

If you mean "trade" as in short term holding of equities with a max time frame of a few months at a time I would unironically suggest Anton Kreil's master course on trading. The guy gets a lot of flak for being a douche but he knows what the fuck he is talking about. He's a contrarian with a proven track record. There is a Mega download link floating around online (I got it from a thread here on /biz/ a long while back, so you can probably search the archives).

If you meant to say "invest" as in long term holding of equities (think 1 year+ time frame) then this guy's channel is fucking great. He is one of the most competent students of value investing I have ran across on the internet. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7dBqDNlwMfHupqgJvPFZPg

Don't just FOMO in now, there's a major zone coming up here with heavy resistance between 13-16. Which means if price reversed from there we could be dumping pretty hard. Not that it would be scary for people that are in from low prices but if you buy at 10 you might end up -20% in a few minutes. Your best bet is to wait and see if we dump or not because we are currently pretty damn high up without any major retracements yet.. so if you ask me, wait for a dump

Doesn't ESPP limit you in certain ways though? Like you can only buy shares from your monthly paycheck and the maximum amount you can buy annually is $25k? I mean they look extremely solid so if $25k is the maximum then go for that.

Company fundamentals look good, my issue is this
https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/MMC/dividends/dividend-growth

They cut the dividend, ideally you purchase a divvy stock, and the divy goes up overtime. this causes your yield on cost to increase. Warren buffet makes 62% on coca-cola because his yield on cost is so low. Starting yield is good and all, but for the long haul, it's the divvy growth that makes you full retard wealthy. MMC cuts the dividend historically
