Walmart is so toxic as an employer brand that the people working there are truly desperate and, clinically, stupid. As in, they probably have a largelyh unemployable IQ in the 88-95 range. Without a hint of derision, I'm telling you that this is the only work in our society that they're actually suited for and capable of.

You're posting here, so you have a computer, internet, and unironically an IQ higher than the average by about half a standard deviation. Chances are good you don't know what truly desperate means, because you have inherent capital being that you're somewhat smart. Even if you're just a NEET at home, your presence doesn't piss off your parents so badly that you can't live there anymore, and your clinical retardation doesn't cost so much that they can't afford to keep you. You're doing okay.

For some of these people, this was the only chance short of maybe joining the Army or Nat'l Guard that they were ever going to get at something above disability, living at home with frustrated parents, committing crime, or being forever juggled between boyfriends.

These cheers give them a chance to feel included in a way they probably couldn't in school, since they're genuinely with their peers. It's actually kind of endearing, or it would be if it weren't embedded in a form of slave labor.
