IMO get some capital and moonlight at your startup idea. Most startups die and most CEOs of successful companies are > 45 years old (and increasing in age).
Spend full time applying for all jobs you can find. Remote work has really taken off if your area doesn't have comp sci needs.
Then iterate on it. If you see a bunch of remote contract work in rails, publish a gem and position yourself as an expert, for instance.
