Still paying off some CC debt but I should be debt free by the end of the month and have about $1,500 per month to invest going forward.

What should I buy first? I want to put some cash in some physical gold & silver bullion because I think it will do well in a debt crisis and there's reasons to think there's instability in the bond market.

On the other hand all the "time in the market beats timing the market" and passive investing stuff seems attractive - but in a too good to be true sort of way. Any advice? I know there are ways to evaluate individual stocks but I don't know where to start with that.

I just sold my house and made $45k on it. I set aside $18k as a six month emergency fund. I’ve got $32k liquid that I’m planning on saving until I hit $50k and using that for a down payment on a house.

Is there a better method to save for a year than using a HYSA at 2.05% interest? Should I throw it in an index fund?

i also plan on opening positions in SAVA, NRN and EQX to kick off the decade. none of these are buy recommendations, but i do have confidence in all of them.

There are lots of signs a crash will happen soon like the yeild curve, how overbought certain markets are, and the fact that the consumer is proping the economy up.
At least employment is at all time lows, but people aren't going to be smart with their money or just can't be smart with it due to expenses like medical bills and rent.

I see three scenarios;

1. It's 1999. We're going to see a parabolic move higher throughout this year and the stock market will get wound back by the Fed with a rate rise, which will trigger a sizable correction.

2. It's 2007/2008. The top is already in for the cycle in December, and we're going to get hit hard by a Black Swan in Q1 or Q2 this year.

3. Full bull for another 5 years. The Fed engineers a continued stock market rally. The Chinese and Americans capitulate in the trade war and go back to the status quo.

For me, it's all about the Fed's actions in the REPO market and mutterings about interest rate rises. If Powell is to be believed and 2019 was akin to 1998's mid-cycle cuts, then they should raise rates again in Q3 or Q4 2020.

Please excuse my ignorance

The way I see it, companies that get bailouts skyrocket afterwards. If Ford goes bankrupt and there's talk of a bailout I'd buy more in a heartbeat because in 2008 when Ford dropped to 1 dollar it quickly bounced back to 16 when they got bailed out. Bank of America dropped to around a dollar and jumped to 32.

I don't like Ford products and think a company built on sell F150s for 50k each isn't sustainable.

In the short term I wouldn't mind some dividends for a couple quarters.

>> No.16724424

Is debt even relevant anymore? And Ford is well poised to be the common mans EV. They're headquartered in a swing state so bailouts are a given.

I don't really need more hedge at the moment in my opinion. T-bills are kinda out of the question for me cause I'm a foreigner and I don't really understand them properly and bonds haven't been performing well for me because the USD has been getting weaker vs Euro so it fucks it up for me. What makes you think they'll get a bailout this time? It would be the public outcry of last time times ten since they're producing really only ICE vehicles and the majority of the public will either not want to pay for it or want to see it die off and be replaced by something environmentally conscious. Imagine if a democrat wins the election, it would be career suicide to give them money. I don't think there's a good risk reward in that stock, but I haven't really looked into it either.
>>16724424
Ford may very well go bankrupt in our lifetimes and they're not set to become a leader in EVs. They're, like other major auto manufacturers, are getting dragged along by Tesla kicking and screaming. The main problem is that even if they can manage to make a decent EV, none of their dealers want to sell EVs because they make the majority of their profit off service, not sales, so they would lose money since EVs are more reliable and need less maintenance. By the time they manage to get around this and spin up their production, it may be too late, and they'll start getting replaced by EV startups that have a fraction of the debt and dealership model baggage. There's also going to be a need for a fraction of the amount of cars on the road as robotaxis take over in cities and greatly eat into the amount of people buying new cars and Ford is already way behind with technology so I doubt they'll manage to do well in that market as well.

Well, there is a lot wrong with Ford. They can't seem to get into the tech side of automotive and they have built some terrible cars since the 70s. Toyota, on the other hand, has a habit of building cars that last for a very long time, which is what most consumers want.

Ford does have a lot of the Midwest buying from them. That and their Euro division does surprisingly well in places like Scotland.

All of that being said, I still think it will be fine for a while. Plus, Democrats are fairly business friendly and are more similar to the Republican party than we give them credit for. I cannot see an outright ban on carbon emitting products only because the issue is treated like abortion. No change but it is a great way to get swing votes in elections. Also, the Senate majority is Republican. I can only see green tech outpacing gas based industries if they have any innovation that's extremely cheap, but for now gas based is more efficient and affordable for the masses.

>I can only see green tech outpacing gas based industries if they have any innovation that's extremely cheap, but for now gas based is more efficient and affordable for the masses.
I think what you want to look at is the cost of drivetrains, not the cost of a new EV, because it gives a better picture of what they could actually produce them for if companies like Tesla were not supply limited with huge margins like 30% on the Model 3. It's predicted that in 2022 the cost of an EV drivetrain will be on par with ICE and they're inherently cheaper to own because you'll pay a fraction of the costs in fuel/maintenance. For example, the average US household pays over $4,000 a year in gas alone. Tesla owners are already saving money hand over fist compared to comparable ICE cars in the same price range and that will go for the whole industry once EVs take off. There doesn't need to be any more innovation in order for them to rise in power, but of course innovation will only make them better and the switch more rapid.

Gas based industries are going to die, it's only a matter of time. Very few people drive a Tesla and come away without thinking that it doesn't beat ICE cars in nearly every metric. Consumers have are signaled that they'll willing to switch to EVs en masse according to polling that has been done.

You mean negatively effect it or send it into orbit? Tesla has a founder's bonus in the EV scene and they're so far ahead of the other companies that most people don't want to own just an EV, they want to own a Tesla. Growth in this market only seems to favor them more. They have the best charging network, best battery technology, and best features, for starters. I think it would take a lot for them to get knocked out of the top spot and their much better at innovating than their older competitors so their lead could actually widen, specifically if they manage to figure out full self driving before companies like Waymo start getting mass market share since their system is much cheaper to implement. With full self driving comes robotaxis and then the race begins to see who will try to corner that trillion dollar industry that will initially be way more profitable than vehicle production or non autonomous ride sharing like what Uber currently does. They'll have the ability to produce cars at cost, add them to their autonomous network, and even resell them once they've served their purpose without any middle men involved.
