I might if I had more than 1 day off (today).

I had 5 days total vacation time in 2019 and none in 2018 since I'm not really an "employee" but a "contractor who has to come into the office every day". I also work from home on the weekends. Also they only pay 44 hrs/week even though I'm working 60+.

Yes of course but that's still a lot of money and doesn't include benefits like the pension plan which allows them to retire at age 55. 110k after taxes is still 78k in Ontario.

https://neuvoo.ca/tax-calculator/?iam=&uet_calculate=calculate&salary=110000&from=year&region=Ontario

The students that graduate from University from STEM fields have to compete in the global marketplace (outsourcing and large numbers of temporary workers) and make significantly less than fairly mediocre teachers. Teachers seem to be a protected class.

Here's a list of the high school teachers that make over 100k (The sunshine list):

Hey, I'm sorry to hear that, man. I'll be honest, I'm on the exact same boat. Still, I have some plans, or "copes". I noticed my loans were shit, so I'm refinancing with much better rates that aren't tied to inflation (what a scam. inflation goes up, my loan goes up). I'm also investing just have something to do, although I'll probably run out of steam in a month... unless I fucking daytrade. I wanna move to a poor country just so that I don't have to be a wageslave... most countries don't allow willy nilly immigration tho, but Columbia iirc has a deal where you invest $20,000 or more in Columbia and you get a pass. Others mostly let you stay 6 months, which might be fine, I dunno.

I hope you have a good one. I fucking hate everyone right now.

Look into CompTIA certs (all of the relevant learning material is on YouTube for free. libgen for free e-books). If you have some of the basics like A+, Network+, Security+, and Linux+ you are guaranteed a comfy entry/low mid-level position where you'll learn on the job. You can then carve out a nice path or niche for yourself and make 6 figures easy. Cheers lad.

>“These walls are funny. First you hate 'em, then you get used to 'em. Enough time passes, you get so you depend on them. That's institutionalized.”

Though I don't think that is the whole of it. Working and socializing with your fellow man is very appealing. Otherwise, I just sit at home and play vidya, piano, program, exercise, cook, watch videos etc. all of which get old after awhile. I wish community events and clubs didn't fall out of fashion. Now everyone's idea of a community activity is to get shitfaced at the bar or go clubbing.

Tell me about it. I think somewhere in the $1-2M range is "enough" at a low level, but $3-4M is really what's needed to have a fun retirement. Sadly, my job pays shit compared to the sort of people that are worth $3-4M, so it's a long grind.

Yup. I worked for the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan as a software engineer. They have one of the best pensions in the world. Literally. They can retire at 51 for 4k/month or at 65 for 8-9k/month.

Sadly I probably won't have the pension they have. Though my salary is a lot higher than teachers in Ontario.

They max out at about 115k for department heads and generally pay 7% to 9% of their pre tax paycheque to their pension. So best case scenario they make about 80k post tax.
