Data mining time. Everyone drop your 5 best investment coins and your reasoning as to why. If we can get a good 100+ I'll knock up a lil spread sheet. And we'll see who got it right and who got it wrong every month or so.

They are the best coins, along with bitcoin. I would add XTZ and ETH as well. In order:
1. LINK - Needed by anyone who wants "clean" data, or needs to connect data to a blockchain.
2. FTM - Needed by anyone who wants consensus and smart contracts for retail use.
3. ENG - I believe this will beat Mixicles. Needed by anyone who wants to run a contract without it being viewed.
4. ETH - Needed by anyone who wants to create a project in crypto. Other chains exist but the network effect is unbeatable (for now).
5. XTZ - Going to be the leader in taking real word assets to the blockchain.
6. OCEAN - Going to revolutionize ownership of data.
7. PNK - Ecommerce dispute scams is a huge problem and they are tackling it.
8. VIDT - Document verification. A no-brainer blockchain usecase.
9. BTC - Needed by anyone who needs to move or hold funds without needing government infrastructure.
Honorable mention: BNB. A great exchange, have to sort out that Binance US thing though.

All projects other than LINK BNB ETH XTZ BTC are nascent and should be considered much higher risk. FTM is a protocol on which other projects can be built. OCEAN is tackling the largest market, and may become fucking massive. PNK and VIDT are projects, not protocols, but are very promising.
OCEAN PNK and VIDT are the most nascent as they are not listed to any non-scammy high vol exchange. For portfolio allocations, I would do something like this:
LINK 20%
BTC 20%
FTM 20%
XTZ 10%
ETH 10%
BNB 10%
OCEAN 5%
PNK 2.5%
VIDT 2.5%

These allocations are just for cryptocurrency, and do not include what one should keep in cash, equity, or interest bearing securities.

oops, forgot ENG. I'd let it take half of BNB's allocation.

You lost me at “OCEAN is tackling the largest market”. How can you have a larger potential market than decentralized oracles? Oracles have multiple applications across almost every industry, but feel free to enlighten me if I am wrong

Sorry, I shouldn't have used the superlative there. Large market.
It is not as foundational of a usecase as LINK, BTC, or a smart contract platform, but it addresses a problem that needs to be solved in order to take machine learning forward; ie allowing ownership and selling/buying of data.

Ocean has very good tokenomics where one stakes tokens on datasets. Essentially, if more data is on OCEAN protocol, more Ocean will be staked. Ideally, the token would capture the value of the data available on the network.

Again, its not a foundational project designed to have others build on it, but will rather rely on other projects to make it work. Regardless, the usecase is huge, and it has a phenomenal risk/reward.

BNB - non stop money maker from exchange, leverage, futures fees. Popular normie friendly exchange, least likely to fuck up when volumes peak. They burn tokens equivalent to 20% of profit each quarter, reducing supply. They make rapid progress unlike other projects continuously missing deadlines.
