You're meant to remember that the artifice is a feature, not a flaw. You want relaity? Watch a webcam or surveilance footage, you want curated reality? Watch a observational documentary.
Reality is for the most part boring, that's why we created theatre and sports. Arguably great realistic drama is about recreating those few moments in life which aren't boring. But spectacle like theatre and sports aren't meant to be realistic, they just need to mimic human motivations and agency enough that it exploits the Intentional Stance/Pathetic Fallacy enough that we enjoy it.
