He dabs on the follies of the market and the madness of crowds/speculators. Read "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator" by Edwin Lefevre for a cool account on what it was like to be a stock broker back in the day.

Read a Random Walk Down Wall Street by Burton Gordon Malkiel for a look at how markets fluctuate and how hard it is to beat them.

These alone should get you hooked on stonks.

Stay away from YouTube videos, channels, or courses that promise you that their way is the best way to get you rich. If it isn't completely agnostic and educational as in "a + b = c" stay away.

All researchers are groomed to fudge the numbers and cook the books, so to speak, so that the data is favorable (in all academic disciplines). I know it's irritating but there is an important lesson about the market you should learn from this. There are many parties involved in trading a particular stock, the desired price movement differs between them. This will result in large swings on no particular news and for no obvious reason. Strategy must take this in to account so you are rarely truly surprised by price movements. Amarin ran up quite a bit before the news dropped. Profit taking and short sellers have momentarily assumed control. This isn't a case of manipulation.

How viable is it to buy a stock you see potential in, in the long term (potentially VERY long term, like years)?

SGMO looks like it's hitting the floor right now, I really don't see it going much further lower than $8, maybe $7 at most. So, I was thinking of buying half of my position around $8 (with the ability to buy the other half at $7 if it gets there, and maybe finally $6 in the end if needed), and writing calls every month for probably around $9 or $10. If it gets there great, I'd be happy to have my shares called. If not, and it will probably be not, I just keep collecting the free money from the premium while I get to hold the shares for however long it takes them to moon. Which again, could be years.

Is this viable or should I just look for better opportunities elsewhere?
