Both are good. Both have risks.

MO's risks are obvious, but I think they've positioned themselves well in the vape and weed markets for future growth.

ABBV's risk is also obvious if you follow the company. Humira accounts for like 2/3 of the company's revenue. However their forward p/e is 8.8, which is astonishingly low for a company of that stature.

I'm long MO but I chose to invest in PFE over ABBV. I'm thinking about adding ABBV to my divvy portfolio as a smaller position.

I think the rapid hikes followed by rapid cuts from the fed turned what would have been a serious blow off in to last year's 20% dip in to snibby controlled territory for future. I doubt this is what Powell had in mind at the start of 2018 when he started hiking but it seems to have worked okay. The China tensions have also tempered the rise and kept things more or less sustainable for short term.

I like them both. Been in and out of MO with call plays since it bottomed out around 40. It's currently in no man's land...could continue downward as every bounce it has had since entering the downtrend has been of nearly an equivalent percentage and length of time. However, I'm inclined to be bullish as the company has good fundamentals and exposure to both the vape industry and dudeweed as hedges to its traditional tobacco revenues. If the FDA decides to come down hard on vaping with the current proposed regulations, Altria is basically going to become the only above-market game in town unless you DIY thanks to the $3-4 million per SKU the FDA wants to require before approval to sell any vaping related product--juices in particular. This is an impossible hurdle for the small players that built the industry, but just another day for Altria.

I am not buying MO here, as I'm waiting for a pullback to the mid 40s. I want to see what it does after an attempt at 52 and a pullback to find support.

ABBV is another one I have been playing calls on the last couple months during its run up. I have no position at the moment, but looking to buy stock soon. It's definitely more bullish in the short-term than MO. Chart looks good. I considering buying today, but I'm going to wait a few more sessions to let the biotech/pharma sector finish the broader sell-off and find any entry, hopefully in the low 80s. It should be good to hold for a re-attempt at ATHs in 2020.

I disagree. The vast majority of its revenue is still traditional tobacco/nicotine products. I like that it has hedged, but neither are enough of its broader business to generate significant growth, yet. In fact, Altria stands to gain far more from heavy FDA regs on vaping than it does from the market staying deregulated, considering it is one of the only players that can afford to submit its SKUs for FDA approval. 99% of the vape market is basically sub-microcap tier, Mom & Pop juice makers. It is literally impossible for them to fork over $3 million per SKU for a dozen or more total and then waiting 6-12 months for approval.

As someone who quit smoking 7 years ago thanks to vaporizers, I think it's terrible for the consumer to pretend these regulatory moves are for their health when in reality it only benefits Altria and a handful of larger companies with market caps in the billion dollar range.

But...for my bags to get nice and heavy, the regs would be fantastic. Juuls for all the boys and girls.

Do you read, nigger?

I said FOR NOW too much of their rev is coming from traditional tobacco. I like that they have been hedging by expanding into weed and vaping. But until they throw those bags of lung cancer cash around for more acquisitions, the bread and butter will still be tobacco.

The more draconian the vaping regs eventually implemented by the FDA, the better for MO. Same goes for weed once it's federalized. Open, laissez-faire markets are not bullish for Altria.

MO is doing the smart thing and buying up potential competitors now while both vaping and weed industries are in secular bear markets. So yes, I like the company, and I agree traditional tobacco is not the future. But it is still going to be the majority of MO's revenue for the foreseeable future until it acquires more competitors.

All the pea-brain investors see this FDA shit as bearish for Juul, but smart money knows it's fucking fantastic for Juul, because Juul's got billions in its back pocket to mold the regulations to its favor. Just like every other so-called "consumer friendly" regulation ever put into law.

and FWIW, Juul is reintroducing its flavors one-by-one after going through the $3-4 million approval process for each at the moment. There won't be a ban on flavors, although there may be severe limitations that are only overcome by big money.

FDA regs on: bullish for MO

Agreed.

Open market isn't bad for MO, and sure, too much reg can stifle all consumer interest in the products. Ideal case for MO would be for Feds to lay off the flavor case and just enforce the financial toll on individual SKUs. This basically wipes out most of their competition and funnels 99% of the vape industry into the hands of MO and any other major, established player that can afford to pay Caesar. If the dumb kikes in Congress ban anything but menthol and tobacco, vaping is dead completely.

No mater what the FDA says though your still gonna walk away with a nice Fat Green Bag. The stock is low 20's now. Dec FDA decision will push it to mid 20s, maybe 30. The buyout would be double the stock price whenever the deal is made. So 25 x 2 = 50 per. Low ball I'd say 45 per. High at 30 would be 60 per.

US is good, probably pretty insulated from Brexit chaos and Sweden rate hikes. As long as central banks across the globe are loose on monetary policy, the bull run will continue in all three stocks, bonds, and gold.

Black swan event are always possible. I would like to know what’s going on with the chinese debt defaults right now. Their financial system is unfortunately not isolated from ours, and if Trump pushes China too hard and their system has a major hiccup, our system might get some shocks. Then employment drops -> market crashes -> economy grinds to a halt -> trump loses. I see that as extremely unlikely, but I’m a believer that the simple things matter in these elections. The tallest candidate wins, and presidents always get re-elected if the stock market is roaring.

Just going by JT's comments I think the plan is go it alone. But that won't be a bad thing. Consider: Lipotor was on the market doing it's own thing for a year then it got bought for 90 a share. So yeah a quick deal after Dec would be sweet and you'd get a Fat Green Bag in the realm of $45 - $60 a pop but the longer AMRN holds out the higher the price tag becomes so the Fatter your baggie in the end. Also with all the other approval deals happening (Canada/Asia/Europe) that just ramps up the pressure on Big Pharma. After all, bad enough a small company would rake in billions here but to rake in even more overseas? Big Pharma would never allow so much insane Profit to slip by.

He's right, there is no sure thing when it comes to FDA approvals. What concerns me the most about this whole ordeal is that AMRN had to sue the FDA a while back because they had gone out of their way to fuck over AMRN. History has the habit of repeating itself. Don't get me wrong, I have a large sum of money benching on the approval and (hopefully) a subsequent buyout, but i have mentally prepared myself, and bought some puts, all for the possibility that this goes south. And like this guy said, if it goes south its going SOUTH FAST. Expectations are high which is a recipe for emotional decision making. The company itself will still be fine regardless, but stock brokers have never been the most 'sensible' people.

My guess right now is it'll play out something like this: The FDA WILL grant the expanded label to Vascepa, but it won't be particularly good. They will heavily restrict the wording of what Amarin can advertise their drug as. As to what the market will do with this information, I honestly have no idea. It wouldnt shock me if there was a big rally based around the common misunderstanding by a lot of the shareholders and that they're just excited that the expanded label was granted, regardless of whether or not it has any real effects. To give an example of what this might look like, the FDA might grant Vascepa its expanded label but restrict this to only people who have already had a major cardiovascular event (stroke, heart attack, etc). This is a more extreme example as I don't think they will do this because of the backlash they would get from the medical community that has to explain to their patients that they cant get this, potentially life saving drug, until they've almost died. But I do not hold any hope that the FDA will grant a totally unobstructed expanded label. It would be uncharacteristically nice for them, and they don't have the tendency to be nice.

Heres a short summary of the suit:
