There is a specific cutoff date where if you own the stock at that date, you will get the divvy and you can sell the next day i.e. cut off date is 2nd, you can buy on the 1st and sell on the 3rd. However stock price is technically supposed to fall by the dividend amount after that date, so such a strategy is supposed to be invalid, but sometimes there might be other market forces that make it plausible.

There are good dividend stocks and good non-dividend stocks, those are the ones you should buy. There are also bad versions of both. When I saw good I mean long-term hodling, preferably DCA-ing for retirement kind of stock, which is what everyone should be doing whether you want to gamble with Biomemes or whatever. Interesting you should say that as today I've been thinking a lot about my strategy. My goals are to outperform an ETF by making moderate amount of trades with a moderate amount of risk. I intend to buy fairly good stocks which have a limited up and downside.

Now here is the perfect window, during that dip, where the Buyout deal strikes. Big Pharma doesn't have to fork out as much Green yet AMRN share holders still end up making a killing. Cause any amount of Green would be based on price of AMRN stock at the time the deal was made. The longer it goes after Dec without a Buyout, the more Green Big Pharma would have to fork out. So better for Big Pharma to strike as soon as FDA made the decision. I'm sure they don't want another Lipotor on there hands; in that case a year after Lipotor was on the market Big Pharma forked out $90 a share for it. If Big Pharma had bagged them right after the FDA decision they would've forked out less. Pretty sure talks are happening now between AMRN and Big Pharma with the deal sealer being whatever the FDA says eoy
