I mean, you should define your terms here. A poor person in the US today has it better than whatever "middle class" meant in the 1800s. What you are experiencing is actually a correction. After a bunch of people dies in a war many holes are left in the economy. But the dust has settled, everything is in place now. You will not get overpaid for your labor anymore, which you perceive as a negative.

There was a cookie factory in my neighborhood growing up. Every morning you could smell the cookies walking to the bus stop. The union made the workers go on strike. Computer science was the hot new thing in 2013-2014 where if you had a degree you could get a good job, now in 2019 everyone is pushed to code and now you have to fight for $15/hour jobs if you're brand new.
