The eth usd was funded out of their own wallet. These new oracles it's unclear yet what kind of deal they worked out with synthetix, but they could be the network's first paying customers. Although from what I understand they won't be 5 minutes calls, rather off chain monitoring pushing updates on chain at specific % movements, which should be less precise but also considerably cheaper, meaning node operators won't be receiving many jobs. Actually nevermind those screen shots still display the timed call model but seem to be one call per hour instead of 5 minutes. Not sure which system they're gonna use exactly, and they also talked about opening a dozen of new crypto prices too very soon. The point is that synthetix and I assume compound and hopefully maker are gonna start to adopt link oracles and in the process will contribute to the funding, while also contributing to what sir gay calls the web of trust model, ie if defi standards use link then it gives it credibility and trust worthiness to be used by other entities, which is when money start coming in.

Here's a question I STILL cant wrap my head around: the A PRIORI of decentralized oracles. Say there was a smart contract that all 7 of the nodes accept where the outlier by say .001% gets a minir penalty. WHAT IF THAT OUTLIER HAS THE MOST OBJECTIVE DATA BASED ON BETTER EVERYTHING, aka cool algorithms and price prediction modeling things and ALL sorts of data sources coming together to synthesize that outlier output.

And then they get penalized a couple linkies because the other two brochads just pulled whatever number is on google's front page.

WHAT THE FUCK THEN LINKIES?

if there is a node with "better" data then that data has market advantage that can be leveraged, someone will write a contract that can take advantage of these margins and enlist nodes that use these more accurate pricing tools whose existence you are conjecturing, other players will see the profitability in these new contracts and demand will shift away from nodes that simply grab a price from google's top result, and instead shift toward the higher tech nodes

If you were a rational enterprise, you wouldn't be asking a NEET who just rubbed tiger balm ultra on his balls and taint how to evaluate entities with whom you might do business on an experimental, unproven tech stack.
At this point you'd solicit Sergey et al. for information about how to make smart contracts work for you. If you're not in the business of figuring out problems that have never been solved, you give up and wait. If you are, then you spend a lot of time and money solving these problems with team smart contract, one of which is establishing criteria by which you will evaluate if TigerBalmNutz1488's NEET node can provide you with reliable service. How well does he maintain a professional relationship, what data sources does he use, what's his infrastructure, does he have a real life reputation on the line, what are his incentives to screw you over etc.
When dudes say we're early they mean we're so early that we are watching the digitization of business fundamentals that have been painstakingly figured out and codified over the past few centuries. According to Chainlink United States entities aren’t allowed to buy LINK tokens. The ICO barred Americans. So nobody is ever going to use it but that’s ok, the purpose of this project is to extract wealth from cryptards, not solve the ‘oracle problem’.
