Unironically true. I use them to max out my Roth IRA. The Boglan 3 fund portfolio philosophy is like free money. That being said I also have a 30k Link stack, a small nest of BTC and Quant.

Steady, sure. Slow? Not always.

>> No.16435078

You buy etfs because for the most part, you'll be fine if you keep buying in at a steady pace regardless of market conditions. Furthermore, make sure you have the dividend reinvestment plan enabled for your account(DRIP). Assuming you purchased enough of the ETF, the dividends will be converted into more shares every quarter which compounds your returns.

If one has a decent amount of capital this is nothing to sneeze at, crypto is way too volatile.

Do you anons prefer a Total Market Index or an S&P 500 Index? Any opinions on intermediate-term municipal bonds if one is using a taxable brokerage account?

>> No.16435177

>>16434199

Just make an account on Vanguard.com or any major brokerage with 0 commissions, link your bank account (takes a few days to confirm it's yours) and start buying some VTI. It's set up so even boomers can use their site so it's super easy.

>> No.16435228

>>16434199
It’s pretty simple, sign up on vanguard and wait for the transfer process. The biggest thing is you need 3k to get admiral shares, which means you get a lower expense ratio. I recommend VTSAX and some large/mid cap value indices, depending on how much you have to invest. Make sure you have an emergency fund and max your Roth IRA before a taxable brokerage

The funds from this aren't even accessible until one is close to 60 right? Why not just dump all funds in a taxable account?

>> No.16435276

>>16435237

It doesn't matter. ETFs don't require a big initial investment like the index funds do. Either way, you get the same returns with the same expense ratios.

The market trades at or near all time highs on 60% of all trading days, historically. If you're going to soil your panties just because the market is rising, then perhaps investing isn't for you, anon.

That’s a little incorrect. You PAY capital gains tax if you wait a year. 0% cap gain tax if you’re under like 40k in declared income. If you don’t wait a year your capital gains are taxed as earned income not captial gains tax.
