Personally, I only own two pieces of gold.
A 5 gram bar and a 1/10th ounce gold double eagle.
Really not worth it in my opinion and I literally just bought the 1/10th ounce the other day out of impulse.
I think the best thing for anyone to do is to just stick with silver and don't even worry about gold.

Well look, I think both are way undervalued but silver even more so.
For every ounce of gold that comes out of the ground, 9 ounces of silver comes out of the ground.
The current ratio is what like 86 to 1 silver to gold?
That literally makes no sense.
Add on to that the fact that over half of the silver ever mined is in landfills and most will never be recovered.
If all that wasn't enough, the amount of uses silver has in comparison to gold is staggering.
Medical applications, solar panels, electronics, etc.
Gold has some uses but it's mostly hoarded for it's monetary properties or it's used as jewelry.

oh also even if the ratio never collapses(it will), you're still better off buying the silver because you can have the same amount of purchasing power spread out over multiple coins.

Okay thanks friend! I was going to say, I hear a lot of talk about the ratio gap tightening, meaning either gold is going to go down in price as silver goes up. My only gripe with it is that It really is kind of a pain in the ass to store compared to gold, even only having 50oz, I have about a few pounds of metal to hide, versus one coin in gold. but that in itself is a double edged sword, like you mentioned. Silver can be seen as a fractional of gold.

Well the thing you gotta remember too is, if the ratio collapses and silver's purchasing power suddenly skyrockets no is going be complaining that they don't have the room to store it.
I'm not saying don't buy any gold but there's really no reason to actually buy gold right now when silver is dirt cheap.
I only bought my 1/10th ounce gold eagle because I had been hyping it up in my mind for months and I really wanted the gold but now it's been a few days and that hype is long gone and I have buyer's remorse.

Ok, quick question guys. Let's say I buy 100oz of silver, or any large amount really, in 1oz coins. If the economy collapses, what's it good for? I can't trade it in for money, because money is now useless, and I can't trade it for commodities, because no one in their right mind would give away food or clean water in exchange for some shiny rocks.

Is silver really good for anything other than holding on to in case the prices go up so you can sell it with profit?

I'm not trying to shill, I'm genuinely curious. Can someone explain to me exactly why I should buy silver?

Quick answer:
Gold/Silver is excellent for recessions and depressions where the economy and civilization in general still functions 100%.

What you're mentioning is an economic collapse and/or SHTF. Be a prepper (survivalism, hoarding food and commodities) for this.

Two different goals and scenarios. I personally don't think we will ever have a full collapse; that's too costly and involves too much work from the elites. At worst we will have another great depression. Realistically we will just have a very looooooong recession.

Hello fren.
> If the economy collapses, what's it good for?
It's good to keep you at the same level you were before the collapse, unlike 95% of the society.
> I can't trade it in for money, because money is now useless
Nor should you, as you said, paper money would be useless.
> I can't trade it for commodities, because no one in their right mind would give away food or clean water in exchange for some shiny rocks
"If a shop doesn't accept your silver, you're in a wrong shop."
In Venezuela, families who got old american silver coins long ago now are comfy, even thriving. A single sterling silver coin is enough to feed a family for almost a month. You are wrong, shiny rocks will ensure your survival in these hard times. That's why rich people stack up gold and silver.
>Is silver really good for anything other than holding on to in case the prices go up so you can sell it with profit?
It's good for that but it's also a safety mechanism for the financial crisis of any kind. There is a reason why in 2008 prices of gold and silver went to the moon, check the graphs yourself.
>Can someone explain to me exactly why I should buy silver?
Because you're a part of the most fucked-in-the-ass generation there ever was and you will probably get no retirement money (but you don't know about it yet and the government is happy about it) unless you stack up some nice pile of gold and silver and sell it all when you can no longer work. It should be enough for the rest of your life.

Buy silver, wait for the gold to go down a little bit and buy gold. If market ever crashes (it does it sometimes lel) buy whatever is cheaper at the time as much as you can safely afford (no more than let's say 20% of your savings).

There is no hope for our generation other than stacking precious metals. Paper money completely belongs to the Long Nose Tribe at this point. Don't bet your future on it.

Some people will have more cows than they need.
Some people will have more potatoes than they need.
Some people will have more clean water than they need.
Some people will have a surplus of other basic necessities.
Money simply makes it easy and frictionless for one person to trade their good or service for another without having to work out how many potatoes or beans or gallons of water a cow is worth. Someone can trade their cow for money that doesn't go bad unlike food, then use that money to buy only enough food that they need in the short term.

Also, something to note is that if the safe is smaller and portable (and not bolted to ground), then you must assume that robbers will just happily take the safe and open the safe someplace else where it's safe for them (thus they won't check the contents immediately). For these safes, feel free to put the heaviest shit in there with no valuables (lots of metal or stones).

If the safe is massive and immovable, then your goal is to make them waste time and make them demoralized and full of adrenaline-fueled panic. For this follow my advice of putting lots of random confusing shit in lots of tied plastic bags. This will make them panic ("what the fuck is all this shit??") while the small sprinkled valuables will make them satisfied enough because they just get the fuck out due to the adrenaline (fight or flight).

I think my useless psychology degree is helpful for thinking of shit like this

Burger here, only make like 35k/year. I currently own 70 oz. silver. Am I fucked? I don't really have much money to invest with and some anons said that it is pointless for me to diversify in crypto, stocks and PMs since I'm so poor. What do I do? Get more silver since it is cheaper or set fiat aside and save for oz of gold?

Fuck those anons. Buy crypto. I was making 24k/yr when I bought 164 Eth at $7 and then sold it about 2 years later at $1250. Now I'm buying Tezos. Silver is a store of value and is only getting more expensive because the dollar is being devalued. Buy it after you make money on investments.
