Just set your strikes 1 SD outside the current price with a 45 DTE option. Manage your winners at 50%.

i dont understand what you're trying to say

i dont think there's even options products available for half of the stuff i trade, so why would i use short strangles when it's not even possible for me?

We're talking about stock options broski. And inb4 /boomer/ its a much more efficent and liquid market than bitcoin and shitcoins if you choose the right underlying. Not that those arent fun to trade either, but the market makers have a truly disproportionate amount of power when it comes to crypto. Sure there a lack of edge in stocks for retail traders but at least you can still do well for yourself. Crypto is a different animal though and unfortunately for all of us it isn't 2017 anymore. Gotta go where the money is for now.

It's an interesting strategy, but if a stock moons you are FUCKED. But an easy way to make money if you can forecast volatility well. Seems very "picking up pennies in front of steamroller" though

It can be. But if you don't trade around binary events like earnings you should be ok. Sure you're not going to win every trade but on a long enough timeline with probabilities in your favor (determined by IV), and not putting on a position worth more than 1 or 2% of your liquidity should it go wrong, this is a good way to make decent returns. It also depends on how you pick the underlying as well. The data says you should target stocks with options that have an IV >= 30% with at least 45 days until expiration. That way there's enough theta decay in your favor should the stock start going the wrong way and you can either roll your position or sell it all together. I would definitely stock to long options before you start selling naked strangles but once you get more comfortable it can be a viable strategy. Just food for thought.
