Bulgarianfag here.
I got 2 job offers (+ visa, obv).
1. Houston, TX, $95,000/yr
2. SoCal (doesn't specify, says 20 miles away from LA) - $120,000
...
I'll probably stay in Bulgaria, but if I had to decide - which one is better? I'm leaning towards Houston, in part because of right-wing memes. 150k would have made me think twice but am I right to think that the 95k is a much better deal?
...
P.S. If I decide to move, would it be wise to withdraw my $150k in crypto to pay tax here (10% flat) instead of hoping for a moon mission and losing it all to insane taxation in USAland? Holding around 100BCH, 150ETH, 5M UTN, 10k LINK.

In a way depends, want to live the ultimate eurofag American experience? Do California. Realize that most of the shit you see is actually just movie stuff? Houston.
Texas is unironically becoming a pretty cool spot, and on top of that, your cost of living is going to be dramatically more relaxed than in south Cali.
>Tax
AFAIK you won't be paying taxes on it because you bought it in Bulgaria. Essentially, it's like you own houses in Bulgaria and if you were to sell them living in America, you don't pay tax to America for some asset you have in fucking Bulg.

If anything, my idea of Texas is romanticised cause of the right-wing circlejerk forums I've frequented.
First thing I think about when I hear Houston is "even the parks are private".
First thing I think about when I hear LA is "homeless, crime, shit on street".
Besides, if I'm to move, I'm taking my wife and baby with me, so Cali is getting less and less attractive.
>>16294817
> Anything but
Interesting. I have no intention of moving there for good, I was considering a 1-2 year stunt.
I make $50k/yr in Bulgaria (net 44k) - and with the cost of living difference, it's getting more and more obvious that I'm not gonna be doing better in the States.
The Cali part is well covered, but what makes Texas a shithole?

Which is why I'd rather stick to making $50k+ and effectively working 20 hours per week in BG from cafes, lol. But I got excited after getting accepted for both jobs and stopped thinking clearly for a second. Besides, I might be missing some details, gotta give the anons the chance to convince me.

Every person I know who lives in California dreams of moving away from there, so I strongly don't recommend it. Houston's a bit of a shithole too, but you can still live like a king there if you make $95K, as opposed to $120K in California which gives you the purchasing power of a near minimum wage wagie

t. resident of neither locations: Cost of Living, your SoCal salary falls about $20k short of how far that $95k takes you in Houston. Texas is, by most major U.S. city standards, cheap. You could rent something better in Houston at that salary and have room to play. Especially if you're moving with a family. The downsides to Houston is that it's hot and parts can get flooded. It's not very scenic. California has better weather and views. If you plan on making a few trips with your family, then I wouldn't even consider Cali. 20 Miles from LA, but where in LA would you be expected to commute? Houston has traffic, but don't let any texas-anons scare you, it's nothing like L.A.

Houston has some cool spots, and Austin an San Antonio aren't a hard drive. It's not like LA where you're living in someone's instagram feed. People in Houston are way more down to earth. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd uproot a young family to either location unless you're fulfilling some lifelong dream.

You'll probably move back to Bulgaria due to the amount of black and nonwhite people. There's so many of them. I couldn't belive it the first time I went to the US.
Also that's not enough money to live in a white suburb in either city.

Have you ever been to the states before? I got offered a mechanical engineering job in San Antonio for 160k but I said no after I went for a scouting vacation there.

To add to this, in the previous case the project I "stole" was one where the contractor company was paid 780,000 EUR to rewrite some old VB code. 400 methods in total. 6 months later they had delivered 0.
I didn't steal it, lazy westerners basically threw it at me and then (probably) took to 4chan to blame the government for not preventing competition, lol.
I charged the parent company 80k/year per dev, which at that time was not cheaper than hiring germans. But germans simply don't work. Like at all. They're lazy as shit, they go to work 3 times per week, pretend to be ill the other 2 and you can see them throwing frisbees in the English garden afterwards. The time they spend at work is mostly facebook and instagram. They don't even have junior-level understanding of OOP, fucks sake.
Although in this case I'm pretty sure Americans have much better work ethic. Britbongs I've worked with weren't lazy at all, same with Israelis. I think it's a continental western europe thing.

Mostly got lucky with my network providing short-term projects. I don't really have a stable job, I made 200k in 2017 and I'm in the negative for 2018 and 2019 (I barely work though, having a kid/pregnant wife is tough when all the grandparents are at selo and you're in Sofeto).
If you just buy a pluralsight membership on black friday, and then spend a month catching up you'll be a better dev than me, srs. Just study some nosql and build some AI system on your own. Shouldn't take more than 2-3 months.

Yeah, if you're putting that much effort into your job, you probably should. I'm a shit developer compared to most Bulgarians I know but that doesn't stop me either.
Fucking german cunts easily make 100k EUR barely working 3 days per week nowadays, and you're most certainly better than them. Don't sell yourself cheap, especially to foreignfags.
My Bulgarian jobs ruined my self esteem for way too long and I did the same, I'm glad I stayed at a job for 7 months in Soimany, where I saw how much better a second year Bulgarian student is compared to a german senior architect. Not even exaggerating, these cunts are dumb and lazy af.
Britbongs make way less money than germans too, and they work way harder. I never quite understood how that works. Even in Londonistan salaries are lower than in eastern germany.
So if you want money go looking for a german project, but if you want decent colleagues stick to britbongs lol.

Not sure what knowledge path is seeing the most demand in Romania. Go to a jobs site and figure this part out for yourself. Mine is .net so pluralsight.com is the best source for information - I personally pay for my subscription but most of the stuff can be found on rutracker.
Don't go the java route unless a "stable boring job" is of any interest.
Learn some modern js, honestly, I learned while working, you'll need a book for that, just check out what's more popular on amazon, read, write code, it's not complicated.
If you want a more streamlined process you might wanna give softuni a try. It's a Bulgarian startup specializing in education for codemonkey (learning by practice) and they seem to have the best automated grading platform out there (they give you a task, you write the code, upload it to their servers and it automatically runs some tests to check if your code is working fine). I know they recently expanded to Romania and the first few months are free so check it out.
Once you know how to code, here's my 2 cents:
You have two paths to victory.
1. Move abroad, keep your Romanian work ethic and don't give in to westerncuck laziness. Impress, go higher up in hierarchy quick, expand network and make use of the low taxation at home when they decide they want to expand the business.
2. My way - stay in your home country, study business (not officially use the internet) while working. Be good at your job and also start some side hustles. By the time you're senior-level you'll be glad you stayed, again thanks to the low taxation.
