Sorry didn't see the new thread

>>16281100
Nothing new. If anything he was more concerned than usual, he even admitted that usually in times of downturn it takes a good 5-6% of rate cuts to engineer a soft landing, but currently we're so close to zero that Fed won't have much ability to help this time. Of course he turned the blame on the government side saying that fiscal policy is causing the problems. Massive debt and deficit that is growing at a faster pace than GDP. In reality both sides are to blame and the Fed is just enabling irresponsible politicians by allowing all the cheap money in the first place.

As usual parts of the testimony contradict itself. For example later on he floated the idea that low rates may just be "the new normal" and any slowdown shouldn't be feared. Then he talked about "nothing is really booming" in the current economy so there shouldn't be any fear of sudden pullbacks. Despite the DJIA/S&P/Nasdaq ripping up to ATH in the past weeks?

I haven't done any courses but there's a ton of info on youtube for pretty much everything. It's not necessarily as organized and regimented as a course but just as useful I've found.

Thechartguys have a good beginners course on stocks and technical analysis. Just search up everything having to do with technical analysis, at least that's what I did.

If you want a dense book that lays it all out: Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets by John J Murphy.

Easier, more basic book: Charting and technical Analysis by Fred McAllen

This is all of course what I've used and I'm still an amateur, but I know few things

>> No.16282545

Just plow through Investopedia on everything you're interested in learning. Courses purport to give you winning strategies but that appears to be a dubious claim. If you're thinking you'd like to use chart indicators in some way they are very easy to test yourself. Pull up chart, add indicator, look at the spots you think would have been good buy or sell points and see what the indicator had to say near those. If it's way off all the time that means it's a junk indicator or you need to change the values it uses to determine how it plots against the chart.

Once you think you've found a useable combination, go through several charts on your preferred time period and use price range tool to measure how much any particular hypothetical trade would have gained or lost.

My target for AMD valuation is around 100BB to 150BB market cap, which is realistic if AMD can take 30% of the datacenter market share, while growing GPU share. Add that to the next gen semi-custom wave (PS5/next XBox) and we may see this valuation 2022.

I'm going to put up a minature shrine of Lisa Su when I retire.

>During its earnings call with analysts and investors, ASUS commented that while the tight supply of Intel’s processors persisted, it is no longer as severe as it was in late 2018. The company said that based on claims of the chipmaker, it did not expect CPU shortages in Q1 2020, but the situation with Q2 2020 remained unclear. Meanwhile, to lessen the impact of insufficient supply from Intel, ASUS now offers more AMD-based products.
We are talking about 14nm CPUs here. And this is already year 2019-2020. Yet Intel is still.

>We are talking about 14nm CPUs here. And this is already year 2019-2020. Yet Intel is still.

I'm in the server HW industry and AMD is absolutely killing Intel in all HPC use cases. Intel not having PCIe Gen4 until 2021(realistically) is just handing market share to AMD.

AMD's only weakness is in enterprise, as the Intel 4 socket builds can handle demanding compute workloads like SAP HANA & Oracle in memory DBs. But I know for a fact that AMD is working very, very hard to shrink that 4 socket capability down to 4 chips on single die.

Plus, there are rumors of Intel still failing at 10nm so badly that they might just skip the node and go straight to 7nm by 2022/2023.

BTW the other reason AMD is stealing market share from Intel so quickly is because many enterprise software makers charge license by number of sockets. Since a single AMD Rome can outperform 2x Cascade Lake chips, you not only save on HW, but the SW licensing (which is the majority of the cost of any stack).

Imagine enterprise sw running on Intel 4 socket servers that can be run on AMD single die 4-chip architecture instead? The value proposition from licensing alone would make all users switch to AMD.

The Holy Buyout would x 2 the amount. You'd get least 60 per. 60 is the bare minimum now. If a bidding war happens you'd end up getting a bit more, say 62 or 65. The longer it takes before the Holy Buyout, the better it is for you. See Lipotor. Took a year before PFE bought them. In so doing PFE forked out 90 a share. I tend to do my research and make some picks and then buy in too early as they near the bottom. I have sold too early in a few cases thinking I've gotten it really wrong and then watched after a day or two of losses they go on to make the gains I was looking for. I've also decided to watch some things and missed out on a good buy opportunity when my research was correct.

You are making faulty assumptions. Anon has no children and his wife also earns an income. He lives in a COL state. He's a government employee and is eligible for a generous pension.

For comparison, I have multiple children and our current monthly expenses are in the neighborhood of $2,500 per month, and that's including a mortgage payment. Once I have our mortgage paid off and I get rid of our health insurance (which is a big financial killer for families these days), there's no reason we couldn't maintain our current lifestyle, which is by no means uncomfortable, on $1,500 a month or less. Since Anon doesn't have children, I suspect he can make do with less than that. Say Anon achieves a total investment portfolio of $300,000. If he withdraws at a 5% rate per year, he takes a $15,000 yearly income ($1,250 per month). In addition to that, he will also get pension income starting at age 50. It sounds to me that if he continues saving diligently, he should have well more than enough to cover ordinary expenses.

The foremost guiding principle of my stock-picking strategy has been ISCGALTTDMM (It Surely Can't Go Any Lower Than This Downwards Market Method), so SNSS is attractive at its current price, but I have some reservations. Here are some of the bullish and bearish points on my mind right now.

- It seems like SNSS Anon has had rotten luck with pretty much every stock he's posted about here. That being the case, I think he must be due for a winner. Surely he can't keep being unlucky all the time. On the other hand, I'm afraid AMRN may end up being a big winner for him. I feel less confident that he's due for two big wins, so I'd like to see what happens with AMRN next week in order to reevaluate this point.
- SNSS is trading at a significant discount to anytime since SNSS Anon started shilling it. I don't know how to figure out what SNSS stock should be worth, but assuming the valuation around $1 ever made sense, how can a price of $0.3x not be considered cheap?
- SNSS is literally curing cancer? Surely that's worth something, both from a market perspective and in terms of karma.
- SNSS's ASH presentation is scheduled for December 8, which, as we all know, is the feast of the Immaculate Conception. Perhaps this is a sign that SNSS is favored by Our Lady?

Negative points:
- SNSS Anon may have blown all his good luck on AMRN.
- Why the huge dump in price all of a sudden? Do insiders know something we don't?
- It's biotech. Of course you're bound to get punished for speculating on biotech stocks.

I think if I do pull the trigger, it will probably be $1,000. Not a huge amount in relation to my RH account's returns for the year. $1,000 will be a nice gain if it doubles, but not so much that I would be upset if I lost 100% of it.

Yes, but they're not the only one.
There's also loxo which is basically the same as snss' drug and they had good results lately(on the day snss died).

I haven't posted much lately so I thought I would give an update. As of yhis weekend, I'm all cashed out of my Robinhood stocks. All the shares of my last two stocks (ODP and TLRD) got called away. Where's that Anon from back in May that said ODP was never going to break $2.50 again now?? I just feel like I'm too busy on other things lately, and I don't feel like I can give my stocks the attention they deserve. I'm up almost 58% on total invested principal since April 26 of this year, so I'm doing well. I think I will probably start buying small amounts of individual stocks each month in Schwab for fun now that they eliminated commissions, but I'm going to focus on trying to pay off our mortgage quickly instead. I'll probably make less money in the long run that way, but I've decided that cutting expenses will bring me greater hapiness sooner versus building income, much less some number on a webpage.

Depending on when he bought WKHS, he may still be up significantly, but they've been on a big downtrend lately, so I think it counts at least for localized bad luck.

You're right. I know I'm incompetent to assign a fair value to the stock, so all I can do is guess what other people might potentially value it at (rationally or not), even if the only basis for it is that they were recently valued above $1, so why couldn't it be valued over $1 again if good news comes out. On the other hand, they can lose 100%, but how much would they really dump around ASH in the event of an unimpressive presentation? It's not like that would result in a huge overnight drop, unless extraordinary good news was priced in beforehand. Buying SNSS now would be gambling for me, but it just seems like unless things are radically different than they seem, SNSS ought to go up.

You don't understand my situation. Housing is not an investment for me. It's a necessary expense, and one I would like to eliminate as much as possible. Paying off our mortgage would save something like $850 in monthly expenses. Reducing monthly required expenses will make us more financially comfortable and reduce anxiety versus growing a brokerage account. A happy life is lived well within one's means. Paying off the mortgage is a safe ~4% return on interest whereas stock investments could lose 50% of their initial value or more in a short period of time. I'm doing well enough that I will succeed and be happy even with 4% returns on the extra mortgage payments. I'm projecting that it will be paid off in 6-7 years under ordinary circumstances (including me staying at the same employer and never changing to a higher paying job in that time, which seems unlikely). It's also easier to motivate my wife cut back to paying off the mortgage quicker versus just building up a number on our brokerage account webpage. Your perspective might be different than mine depending on whether you are married with children and depending on your income. We are a single income household, so mortgage payments are a more significant portion of monthly expenses than others with higher household incomes.

The thing that saved me (and her) was that we did not fall into the "debt trap" and the house was bagged during the market shat fest so it was cheap as hell. Both cars are paid off. I pay $400 for the house a month for example and it's a 3 bed house with a garage and basement. I view my upcoming AMRN proceeds as a way to kick start my retirement, not be the end of it, $22,000 should do a lot of kicking I think. (26,000 is going back into the bank). I plan to add to that each month as I do my savings.

When I was a teenager (13-16) i used to trip on acid and shrooms A LOT.. i used to also take A LOT of xanax and opiates as well as other drugs. the opiates, xanax, and cocaine carried on till i was about 20. Just recently a friend of mine was like hey i can get some shrooms.. since i've been wanting to go camping lately i was interested in taking some and going camping so i started to look into it unlike the teenager i once was i now want to know the side effects of things i do.. I stumbled upon micro dosing.. so i gave it a shot.. it changed my mind for good.. i see a lot of benefits in it.. then I looked more into it and how they are treating people with irreversable depression with it... its actually kinda mind blowing.. i'll take some mushrooms here and there now and go about my day...

The reason why i think i find it so mind blowing is because I feel my fucking mental state is kinda fucked due to such heavy drug use when i was younger.. i would sometimes stay up for a long time with no drugs or sometimes couldn't wake up even with drugs.. my pschological being is kinda fucked from heavy drug use so the only thing i found to cure it was different drugs.. the mushrooms seemed to of pushed the reset button. I'm 28 now and last time i took mushrooms was when i was 18 and it was a bad expereince.. other drugs i got off when i was 20 and was clean from 20-24/25 but still had those ever lingering effects from early drug use that drove me back to things like cocaine and xanax... after the shrooms.. i feel at ease... it's really hard to explain unless you've been there.. or maybe you do understand.. idk..

When it becomes legal and people start getting on the band wagon we could see some interesting shit come out of legit companies doing studies much like cannabis now

the whole point is that it's all DIY-style. You just buy some spores or get a print from someone you know, everything else is from the hardware store or already in your house.
if someone tries to sell you a "kit" that is more than spores, tell them to fugg off.

there are no shroom/fungi companies that I know of. And I think that and eventual companies will have less of an "edge" over in terms of possible profit margin compared to weed companies. Just IMO. Shrooms and weed are both super easy and fun to grow, anyone can do it, so if a company wants to charge a high price for the stuff they might not be able to corner the market ;^)

we all took drugs when we were younger, right?
I used more acid than shrooms pre-18, I think it is more "pure", the healthy choice. Of course that isn't why I chose it at the time...
I was never using anything as early as 13, and not much pre-16, I really think that makes a difference.

the only thing that's different for me is my long-term memory isn't as good as most people. Or I sort of chose to think about my personal past events less, I think differently about things from most people. I haven't really done any true damage to my brain functions (yet), and even my liver is holding out pretty well.

I think it'll be a thing, I just dunno how much money there will be in it.
Of course, a company just patented fish oil and people are saying they're going to be worth $10B or more so who knows lol.

With shrooms, there are a bunch of people out there growing right now, and all kinds of resources online. There will be a medicinal/recreational market that companies can make some money from, but the distributed production will still be there.. a lot of people who noc fungus do it for fun, because they love it. If companies are trying to charge way too much for grams of shrooms the DIY side will take over, the barrier to entry is nonexistent besides the law.
Just like the kids making their own nic salt pods now that Juul can't push mango anymore. People find a way, and it might not be in a way that stock market investors can make money from.

only idiots are seriously long right now. The data is horrendous and china trade is completely priced in now. You either get:

A. decent pullback to set up for santa rally
B. up a little more to 315ish area then crash big

there is no "infinite rally forever" scenario here. Not only are fundamentals dogshit, but go look at a couple dozen different company charts and tell me what you see. The indexes look like we're about to enter a decade of prosperity yet anything not getting pumped by the fed and AAPL is doing dogshit and toppy

If you're just growing a small amount for yourself, not bragging about it or telling anyone, not buying or selling or sharing, no one will mess with you. yeah man.. the app is pretty cool...i've been buying LINK and putting it in their earn section... you can use it anywhere visa is accepted.. everytime you spend on it they give you back 2% in the payment of MCO..

I'm a firm believer in the future of crypto.. With 2% interest on my robinhood and 2% back on my crypto card.. i don't see many reasons to have a bank anymore.. i've been finding myself taking money out of the bank more and more and putting it somewhere else.. i can't be the only one.. so i'm not gunna be the last to try and take my money out of the bank

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkzELKtsW8U

I personally have the ruby steel coming... you can lend your crypto out to them and receive a good % interest back.. some coins they'll give you over 10%...

They also refund your money if you pay netflix or spotify or other things with your card.. you should check it out..

but this is a stock thread so i won't go too far into it.. but bottom line is that a lot of financial institutions and money mangement systems will use visa and mastercard...... imo....

I don't know anything about these twin studies
is it a thing where one of them weighs 10%-20% more than the other, or are there cases where one twin is completely healthy and the other is 350lbs of blubber?

Or are you saying that the twins will be about the same amount of fatness, even if one exercises and eats healthy and the other one pigs out? I would be very surprised if that was the case in a properly controlled study.

>> No.16290438

>>16290382
twin studies typically involve comparisons between identical twins and fraternal twins. Usually, it's adoption studies that compare nature vs. nurture by showing how similar identical twins turn out when they are separated from birth and adopted by two different families.

When it comes to weight, the identical twins end up very similar in terms of body composition, regardless of who raises them. The fraternal twins are genetically much more like siblings than identical twins, so they have similar weights but are not nearly as similar as the identical twins.

Does this explanation make any sense?

If it all comes down to willpower and personal choice, one would expect a big difference in a pair of twins if one was raised by thin asian parents who emphasized diet and exercise and the other was raised by obese american landwhales who fed them a steady diet of pasta and body-positivity.

UNLESS willpower is determined almost entirely by genetics, which says something pretty scary about freewill and self-determination.

They have surrounded the university campus since yesterday and ask for everyone in the campus to surrender.

Willpower is almost entirely from genetics.
You think you can just nurture someone well and make them a strong person? Most of the things that people assume about human behavior are a cope from people with weak genetics. There is a reason that tribal life and feudalism had clearly defined hierarchies(that would stay in-bloodline for hundreds or thousands of years), even with very basic forms of control and communication.

I am speaking above of comparative willpower, person-to-person within a specific society. There is also a sort of global willpower modifier applied to everyone based on the strength of their collective belief.

haha what

you know, in the US our prisoner number is supposedly 665 per 100k citizens. So if your number in HK is 7500 per 7.4million total population, that's around 6.5x fewer prisoners per capita.
you need to get those numbers up if you want to compete with a true prison empire like the USA! :)
