Amazon part time warehouse wagecuck here. I love it
>They pay me $18 an hour
>Flexible as hell
>Don't give a shit if you don't work there for weeks (as long as you don't schedule yourself to work certain dates)
>Know that I don't care about the job but just want to make money
Only downside is that the work is fast paced, wagecages(literally), short breaks, but it's worth the pay

Meanwhile department stores, restaurants, ma/pa shops offer you:
>Minimum wage
>"flexible hours" that don't work in your favor
>Annoying bosses that constantly bitch at you
>Shitty customer interactions

Why haven't you guys (part time job seekers) taken the amazon pill? As a student at uni, it's probably the best idea I've had for making side money for expenses.

Just apply online bro. There is no interview, only a warehouse tour followed by a drug test/background check. Just hope you don't get stuck in stow. Stow is gay as fuck.Luckily you can cross-train into other things and move up quickly etc.

There are operators and we call them PIT crew. However, you got to work your way up into it. Unfortunately Amazon doesn't let you choose your position in the beginning. What will help is to constantly ask your manager how you can become PIT crew. Eventually you'll get switched to dock work, until then you'll have to some shit like pack or pick. I work in dock and it's honestly the best part of the warehouse.

This. Especially their management positions. With the amount of overtime you do in "management" it comes out to about $20 an hour AND thats with the "bonus". Kicker is you're salaried which means 40+ hour work weeks don't equal more pay not gonna work Thanksgiving or Christmas. Oh yeah if you quit before the full year for the first or second bonus they can demand it back WITH interest lol thats how they lock you in for 2 years in a row.

What do you do in docks and stowing?

>> No.16292247

>>16292165
Stowing is placing items in the bin. It sounds eady but is honestly the hardest job in the warehouse. It's more mental than physical as there is a rate you must meet. Also, it's the least automated of all positions. You see, pick and pack at least have computers/projectors that tell you how much to pack, or where to pick. Stow is completely off the top of your head. Now this sounds easy, physically it is. But mentally it sucks because you must meet a rate. Our rate is 200 units stowed per hour. This would be easy if it wasn't for that fact that bins are nearing 100 percent capacity. You also must understand that if you don't make rate you get a write-up, a write-up is death sentence. On the flip side of this is your relationship with yout manager on whether or not they enforce write ups. Luckily my manager started in stow and knows the issues with it. Also keep in mind you have no control over what items you stow. If you get an entire shift of large items you are fucked. This happened to me and I got like 95 items an hour, yeah that shit is torture. The rate is what sucks about Amazon, if they would lower the rate to like 160 it would be cool, the physical work is easy, but when you have uneasy rates you get fucked. This is also why I say to avoid peak. (Part 2 to be conitnued.)

>> No.16292301

>>16292165
Part deux, Now dock work is originally what I wanted. Dock is split into two main parts. Indoc and outdoc. I currently work in out doc and it is cool as fuck. The best part of dock work is work rotates every part of your shift. Our responsibilities range from loading trucks, to laying items on the conveyor, to building pallets, to problem solve (fixing packages), to pre-load, to palletizing with robots, doing forklift stuff, etc. There are many options and you can ask to get placed in one spot. I currently load trucks and I love it. Shit is a fucking cake walk. But what makes docks so great is that there is no rate and no one to 'coach' you you just hit the doors and stack. Just keep your head low and stay off the radar and you're golden. Fuck stow.

>> No.16292387

>>16292349
No, you don't get to pick which job you want. That's one of my biggest criticisms of Amazon. I understand it's mostly entry level positions, but they would heavily decrease the attrition rate if people could at least choose a position that is equal or similar to their abilities. Like I said, I wanted dock work originally, stow was the ONLY position I was trying to avoid. Now, my advice, if you get stuck in a position you hate is to stick it out. I know that sounds like some boomer tier shit but honestly there is a ton of opportunity to advance and cross-train at Amazon. I'm currently looking to be a part of amnesty and slowly move to learning.
If you do decide to go to Amazon, just remember it is more mental than physical, and you usually have a 5 week amnesty period for meeting rate. Also, it's good you're avoiding peak holiday season. I wish you good luck my guy.

>> No.16292388

>>16292361
The job is easy as fuck. You work on a comp all day in a little cubicle and your phone auto dials people and you ask them for money. If they pay you get a cut. You have to meet a goal every month to actually get paid that cut though. It's hard at first, esp if you've worked customer service.

Best part is though... You're not. When people call in to talk shit because you're a debt collector you can literally say "hey I don't know what you think this is but you don't get to talk to me that way" and depending on their response you fucking hang up on them lmfao
