Generally being wealthy takes a percentage of the following 3 areas.

1. be lucky (i.e. natural talent, right place right time, relationship to people of power)
2. take risks with other people money
3. be willing to fuck over anyone no matter how close they are to you.

work as hard as you want. unless you are willing to do the above, you will only ever achieve moderate wealth. at that point you need to decide what that money is going to buy you that you can't have without it.

Once you begin to acquire wealth, get a good/shady accountant, hide your money in companies and other shit... art, gold, overseas investment, real estate (cash buy). get a pre-nump. put some money in an ira. if you are famous ... be a public philanthropist to help people forget the horrible things you did to get . where you are.

The case you're referring to is selling an app for $1 to 1,000,000 people.
But the end result is exactly the same as if you sold a $1,000 product to just 1,000 people (or an $80 a month subscription service provided to corporations, for instance...)
Your product doesn't have to have mass appeal and be the next Flappy Bird. It can also be a product that provides IMMENSE value to a niche subset of people.
