BUZZ-Street View: Amarin could make billions on new approval, despite label wording
8:28 AM ET, 11/15/2019 - Reuters
** An FDA advisory panel voted unanimously to grant drugmaker approval to extend the label of its heart drug Vascepa as an add-on therapy for patients at high risk of heart attacks and strokes

** However, FDA's expert panel was split 50-50 on whether the drug label should also be extended to patients who have not previously had a cardiovascular disease or stroke; FDA expected to settle debate before Dec 28 deadline

LABEL DEBATE DOESN'T REALLY MATTER

** Jefferies ("buy", PT: $30) in a note titled "approval coming ... label debate doesn't really matter" says it would still not be surprised if stock was volatile on questions related to its label

>$30? Shit I wish I'd bought premarket... or held those shares I bought and flipped in my IRA

** Brokerage adds that FDA may choose to cover only high-risk patients with history of the disease, and leave it up to doctors to decide whether they should also use it for patients with no history of the disease

** Citigroup also believes that physicians will use Vascepa in very high risk patients regardless of the wording of the label

** Stifel ("buy") notes that even excluding patients with no established cardiovascular event, Vascepa's broader label can reach 10-15 mln patients and generate ~$3 bln for AMRN (Reporting by Ruhi Soni)

>In other news, I'm a stupid fuck.

Also, because they're regulated, so they won't contain mercury, and they're altered so they'll have more of the desirable effects. Much better quality control. And for doctors, they'd much rather just say "fill this at the pharmacy, it's covered by your insurance" then "go buy this brand at costco, or this one at amazon, these are the best. Hell, I get the Flonase from my pharmacy by prescription just because of simplicity and convenience.

50% SPHD (Invesco S&P 500 High Dividend Low Volatility ETF)
20% Buy and Hold large-cap tech (Facebook and Microsoft)
10% Buy and Hold banks (Santander, Lloyd's, BofA, and SoftBank)
10% Swing trade Argentine and Brazilian banks (Banco do Brasil trades were like abusing a video game glitch)
5% swing trade whatever /smg/ shills
5% cash

Up 16% on the year. SoftBank and BofA let me down. Won and lost quite a bit. The knowledge amassed has been more valuable than anything gained or lost in my opinon.

This is the logic of normies and what I believe caused the sell off last year:

>> No.16271615

>>16271534
It's called walking a stock down. Essentially the same thing as a pump n' dump but in reverse. You are selling shares to enter a short position. If a significant percentage of the stock's volume is short it will cause the stock to drop rapidly. Now, in order to close their positions they must buy the same quantity of shares at some point. If the stock is beat up enough by short sellers, the buyers will start to capitulate. This is why you see weed stocks spike up 10-20% in a day then give it all back. Shorts covered, price spikes, people who bought in below that price take profit, few people hold. You need a lot of people holding to maintain a steady rising trend. No trend reversal if everybody is immediately jumping out of the pool on brief upticks.

>> No.16271660

>>16271534
However, there is such a thing as a short squeeze. This normally occurs on unexpected good news from the company sufficient to interest a lot of buyers. If conditions are right it forces shorts to cover immediately at the opening bell on an already large gap up, you get big gains like 25% or more in a day and potential bullish trend continuation as market now views the company as much more valuable in light of the material news.

I think I understand what you are trying to ask. Bear with me here:

Market makers and movers will size up on a short for X reason. If others see this short volume mounting, they will panic and sell off or set up short positions themselves (this will create a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts and make the price go down). If, however, the short sellers were wrong fundamentally and the stock goes up after a good quarter or other good news, the price of the stock will climb due to both (1) the good news and/or a successful quarter and (2) short-sellers being "squeezed" out of their position and being forced to sell if they can't handle the pressure.

Pic related is a prime example of this. The dip you see was created by short sellers mounting their shorts and the enormous spike was them being squeezed plus good news. Google "VW short squeeze 2008". It a good case study that will clarify things more.

I forgot to mention a particularly nasty short tactic. Sometimes a deliberate organized short attack will include a yellow biz media fud article written by an outlet with a decently large audience, Citron Research for example. This article will be a lengthy piece with all sorts of photos and charts all tuned to criticizing a company. It will contain half truths and outright lies. The author will attempt to present himself as a virtuous investigative journalist trying to protect the poor vulnerable longs from losing money. Article will include a price target of -90% or equivalent fantasy fud number. Then the kicker on the bottom: it will read "I/We are short (the company in question)".

True. And I was, for several years. Actual gambler playing actual gambler's games like poker. Then I switched to this bullshit here. Now, in poker and also now in stock trading I like to dig in to statistical probability on any given strategy. Unfortunately I'm extremely stubborn and refuse to believe the numbers until real world results show me, in dollar amounts, real dollar amounts not simulated dollar amounts, why probability is important.

To that end I am nearly convinced that, as a swing trader, I would be best served by simply going long and occasionally short on the S&P with leverage instead of picking individual stocks. The last niggling bit of trepidation I have about that is the gambler's mindset. If I exclusively trade the S&P with leverage, I drop my chances of catching a flier that goes 100%+ in a short time period down to zero. However, if I trade my strategy as is on individual stocks, let's say 5-10 positions at any given time, I will underperform the market unless/until I catch one of those rocket rides. By underperform I don't mean losing money on average, I just mean gaining less than the market does. I cannot predict what will and will not be a break out runner as I'd be rich and retired real fast if I could. So I underperform the market waiting until the biggie hits. If biggie is big enough, I can make my whole year in less than a month.

So! I am coming around to changing the structure of my portfolio to something like 80% 2x S&P swings, 20% for fishing expeditions on 1-3 positions at any given time. However, since I do have to deal with trade fees (non-US resident), it might actually work out better if I did 90% S&P 10% fishing.

How does this strategy look?
I've been into stonks for a little while now, I managed not to do anything stupid as a newbie, understood the basics fast enough and I've settled into going long on a couple of stonks that I deem fundamentally sound and feel comfortable with parking my cash there for a while. I'll be adding more cash to my portfolio in the next couple of months, probably 20-30% more. I was thinking of leaving 80% long on stonks and set 20% for swing trading. The few times I've tried it (with low amounts of money) I was lucky enough to close positions with 1-5% profit in a matter of days, mostly by closely following stocks on volatile markets (asian, south american) that seem to be very much affected by news about their countries, thus allowing to be somewhat accurate with timing their dumps and pumps in the short term.

Does this idea sound retarded or sound enough? I'd use profits from said swing trades to add to long term investments eventually.

Yeah... Ive thought it through more... and the worst case scenario would be that the value of the stock halves.. so I lose 60k... and after thinking about it I am willing to take that on as a risk in order for the potential best case scenario which is the value of the stock doubles or more.. From losing 60k it's all just lesser degrees of losing .. say losing 30k or 20k.. or if the value of the stock stays the same after January.. But I think that the most likely scenario is that the drug gets approved for expanded use on the 28th and a pharma company picks it up in January

I just got really scared thinking about putting all that money into what is more or less technically a gamble but once I thought of the potential risk, I'm okay with that risk

Can someone provide a plain language guide to options trading? Every walk through I've watched or read has been complicated still. Let's use an example, an a likely first time contract I'll be doing in the next week:

>ticker ACB
>loss of 18% in one day
>stock plummeted from start of year
>likely to continue as 2019 year ends

So I want to do a strike price of 4.00 since it's currently in the 3s since I am doing a put call, because I know it's likely that it will be lower than the strike price, which means I get a premium payout of something like .50-70 cents likely. So I buy to open > strike price 4 > contract expires Dec. 20 > put > and contract cost at .80 cents. Does all this makes sense in terms of actually doing the transaction?

How do you predict these large spikes in value and why would you hold onto the stocks after that jump, knowing that the risk of it falling down is 30%?

On a different note, I was given about 100 shares of MET, and it's trapped in a stupid broker that charges for transactions and only has major companies on it's list of investing. What the fuck is up with that?

Going by the deal with Lipotor and PFE in 2000 those dudes got PFE stock instead of cash. Which works out in your favor as I'll explain. I've got 800 AMRN shares. Assuming 60 per share with PFE stock at 35 per I'd get 1.71 PFE share for each AMRN one. So 1368 PFE total. Each pays out a Divvy. 0.35 x 4. $478.0 x 4 a year in Divvy income. So you could take your new PFE stock, let drip work for a year and end up with 54.7 new PFE shares (or an extra $1915). Are AMRN chasers at all concerned about the competition? I own some Glaxo so this is... not wholly wonderful news.

** Panel of independent experts to FDA vote unanimously in favor of approving wider use of rival Amarin's fish-oil derived drug Vascepa, currently approved for lowering triglycerides

** AMRN is seeking to expand the label on Vascepa to make it a treatment for reducing the risk of heart attacks, strokes and other cardiovascular events; FDA decision expected by Dec. 28

** Brokerage Maxim says panel meeting outcome is further validation for the class of drugs and is a positive for MTNB's omega-3 fatty acid-based drug MAT9001

** MAT9001 is being developed for lowering triglycerides and has shown superiority vs Vascepa, MTNB said

** Brokerage says drugs such as Vascepa have the potential to gain as big a market share, as that for popular cholesterol-lowering drug statin

** Patients have been moved from GlaxoSmithKline's Lovaza to Vascepa, and MAT9001 may follow suit given the superior efficacy data vs Vascepa - Maxim

** Up to Thursday's close, MTNB up 50% so far this year (Reporting by Saumya Sibi Joseph in Bengaluru)

Bottom line though, it does not mater now what happens after 12/28. Buyout, no Buyout or go it alone then a buyout, honestly no mater which of those three happen your gonna be raking in the green. Personally and from a financial standpoint it makes since for a Buyout to happen soon as possible after 12/28. Less Green Big Pharma would have to fork out. v.s they wait and the result would be more green shelled out cause by that point AMRN stock would be higher. For example, I'm sure PFE don't want to make the same mistake they made with Lipotor, they waited a year before they bought them and ended up forking out 90 per share in the process. So relax and enjoy, the hard part is almost over with.

>> No.16280159

Go to free charting site like tradingview.com and look up companies. How to predict what it will do depends on how you want to trade, how long you want to hold any stock on average (days? weeks? years?). Some people trade the very long game almost entirely on company fundamentals like how much money the company makes, what they do, whether the outlook for that is good, how much debt they have etc. Others, mostly shorter term traders, are more heavy on making predictions based on what the chart shows.

To buy stock you open up an account with a brokerage, deposit money, buy something and promptly take a loss because that's usually how it goes when you start.

I think there’s a coil of scripture inside or something like that, I’m really not sure about the intricacies and I guarantee you Wikipedia knows more than I do, since that’s where I got the info any years ago.

>Saliva is somewhat antimicrobial

Until the rabbi spreads herpes to the infant and it kills them. The reason is likely because some Jewish "scholar" that loved sucking infant dick wrote it into the scripture and since Jews have a genetic predisposition to sucking baby dick they acted on impulse and the practice took off

Not too sure if puts on AMD are a good idea right now. It IS overbought and should go down soon to normalize a bit, yet it keeps climbing and climbing with target prices getting risen left and right, defying expectations.

Common sense dictates that puts might be a good idea, but chances are you're in for a world of hurt in this clown market.

MTNB is still the early stages of R&D on a new drug. Too early to tell if its a company that could get bought out or not. I'm only citing Baker Bros because they are insiders so they have to know something. When your playing with millions of dollars you cant afford to throw it away.

Nothing new. If anything he was more concerned than usual, he even admitted that usually in times of downturn it takes a good 5-6% of rate cuts to engineer a soft landing, but currently we're so close to zero that Fed won't have much ability to help this time. Of course he turned the blame on the government side saying that fiscal policy is causing the problems. Massive debt and deficit that is growing at a faster pace than GDP. In reality both sides are to blame and the Fed is just enabling irresponsible politicians by allowing all the cheap money in the first place.

As usual parts of the testimony contradict itself. For example later on he floated the idea that low rates may just be "the new normal" and any slowdown shouldn't be feared. Then he talked about "nothing is really booming" in the current economy so there shouldn't be any fear of sudden pullbacks. Despite the DJIA/S&P/Nasdaq ripping up to ATH in the past weeks?
