IIRC something like 3% of Americans own like half of the guns.

Need more right-wing Boomers to buy another five or six rifles for when Obummer comes back to steal the WH because reasons. Or we need left-wingers to start buying guns en masse for their #Resistance fantasy larps.

Barring those two scenarios I wouldn't go long on guns.

Your concern is valid, but you really must not know many gun nuts if you think this. Stop thinking of guns as a utility, and starting thinking them as a expensive toys because that's basically what they are to most collectors. Buying guns is an addiction for some.

>The global economy is in a synchronized slowdown and we are, once again, downgrading growth for 2019 to 3 percent, its slowest pace since the global financial crisis. Growth continues to be weakened by rising trade barriers and increasing geopolitical tensions. We estimate that the US-China trade tensions will cumulatively reduce the level of global GDP by 0.8 percent by 2020. Growth is also being weighed down by country-specific factors in several emerging market economies, and by structural forces, such as low productivity growth and aging demographics in advanced economies.

If I buy a Put for a strike price of 5.00 that expires in 64 days on pic related and the price falls below 5.00, then the price of the contract would theoretically increase? Do I have that right?

So the contracts cost between .30 and .40 each. You never really know for sure until you put bids in.
If you buy the contracts for 0.30/0.40, you need the price to be 4.70/4.60 or lower at expiration to break even.
But if you buy the puts and the price suddenly takes a strong dip, maybe to 4.90 or so, then the value of your puts should go up, because they are closer to being ITM and the IV should increase (meaning, the probability of the stock being below $5 at the expiration has increased). So then you could sell the puts before expiration for more than you bought them for and make money.

All of this assumes no fees; because you're using something that isn't RH, there will be some fees, so the profitability of the situation becomes more difficult for you depending on how much those fees are.

>Does the contract being 64 days out factor negatively in somehow?
contracts with longer time until expiration will have more premium, compared to a same-strike option with shorter duration. I wouldn't necessarily call it a "positive" or "negative" factor, it's just how options work.
Let us know if this answers your question or if there is anything else that we can discuss ;)

Question: What is the difference between these 2 below, I dont really get it.

Credit spread:
Sell put $20
Buy put $19

2 options separately
Selling a $20 put
Buying a $19 put

Whats the difference? Credit spreads seem to screw you over on the price of the two contracts vs getting both separately. Is there something Im missing? One position of the contract can be closed early enough that it screws you over with the credit spread, so why bother with one of those?

I'm confused about options being in a"long" or "short" position. Are these two actual things, or just a name for the type of strategy or position you're in?

What's the difference between buying/selling to open and buying/selling to close?

Oh just following my swing strategy is all. I'll hop right back in if it shows it wants to continue the uptrend. On backtest of my widgets for exit criteria, the likelihood of immediate bounce back to is lower than that of some flat-ish ranging or further drawdown. The whole reason I do this is to minimize drawdown and therefore never be in a position to take heavy losses barring bad news gap down.

This is strategy dependent. If you are a long hold investor, the idea there is to use the pullbacks as an opportunity to improve your cost average by buying chunks of shares every once in a while and holding through all of it. If you trade on shorter time frames, yes, use a stop loss. It can be well below anything you think is feasible if you're worried about a low dip knocking you out of the position followed by immediate bounce back. Caution about automated trailing stops; where the stop should be depends on the range any individual stock happens to move when it's in a trend. A set percentage trailing stop may put you too tight to the price action at times, risking disadvantageous sell, depending.

Red openings are much nicer than green openings though, they give the bulls a chance to buy the dip. Green openings mean people gonna fade the rally.

I have no empirical evidence for this, but it is my sense of how these things usually go. I generally regard futures traders as stupid and unreliable, and watch the Nikkei instead.
