Yeah, I personally stopped trading like that because it's too unpredictable. I got WAY more profitable when I waited for the price instead of chasing it. So for example on ROKU I would have waited for price to at least get down to the first "after the pump" support of 124.40, which by the looks of it would have stopped me out in a profit or break-even.
Risk management is a big part of trading.. always use stop loss and never risk more than 2%. Just by those simple rules, if I went long at 124.40 I would have been stopped out pretty much break-even depending on the trade.. if I was scalping I would have been stopped out in a 0.40% profit because I would chase the price with my stop loss. This system is way better if you ask me and it's much more relaxing because all you have to do is to move your stop loss while you play a game or whatever

That's completely up to you. When I scalp I put it in break-even as soon as price bounces and then just hunt the price with it, when I swing trade I put it in break-even when it shows a clear bottom since my goal then is to hold the trade for days or weeks. This is why you only risk a small amount (1-2%), because you have to wait for the bottom to form while your position is open. You're basically confident that the entry you picked (strong support or resistance) will hold and be strong enough that it reverses the price

Activision fucked up this quarter, when they tried to appease the chinks by taking away that rowdy chinks championship and prize money they pissed off their base of woke consumers. So their woke consumers in turn boycotted them. When they finally went back and restored the dudes title it was too little too late the damage was done, thus they're lowering targets and forecasting they're not going to make as much money as anticipated. The stock is down as a result.

You know china JUST enacted a gaming limit?
Like it's a curfew, 90 minutes a day per bugman so Activision just burned the western goodwill, announced overwatch 2 WAY ahead of schedule (no release date currently known, trailer shown just out of the fucking blue), announced diablo 4 cause you know they were working on that after the fatal "Don't you have phones?" crucifixion, so they have a new game down the line which will probably release within the year.

Activision will probably pump cause Tencent's gonna wanna invest in companies that aren't in China. Expect foreign investment into media and games.

This is the story with AMRN. Nov 14th they go before FDA. They pass this mark the stock will see a 30% spike (hit almost 20 - 23 per). Then we'll see a slump due to people taking the quick dollar. Then the stock will rally again. The final FDA meeting on Dec 28th is the critical one. Pass it and the value is limitless. Profit out the ass for ARMN for 10 years. The Holy Buyout will happen. Big Pharma won't let a small company like AMRN keep all that Profit for themselves. Everyone wins. That's the nice part. Most companies just die after a rejection. stock holders bail, money dries up,etc. However AMRN is different. They've already got a product out that's been constantly raking in the money for them all year long. As they say no such thing as bad publicity. Also they're working on getting the drug passed in other parts of the world. (Europe/Asia/Canada). Be big slap to the face if rest of world said drug is ok but our FDA said nope. The high for the stock is 50 per after they gain FDA approval/rest of world expansion. The average price of the stock is 30 per. But this is just going by what's known now. A buyout would see you get 45 to 60 per share.

One of these days i'm going to get an entry on a weed stonk that isn't a fakeout. Trul has the strongest price action in the sector right now. If anything is going to break out properly it should be this one. The history of always meeting or beating earnings helps.

Disclaimer: weed stocks are both in a strong bear market and wildly volatile. Trading these without a stop loss is suicide for the time being. My portfolio would be 15% higher this year if i hadn't endlessly prodded at them on fishing expeditions.

Also this little thing: 11/14 the date of the AMRN FDA meeting the stock will be halted till the meeting is done. So depending on which way it goes you should see some wild action after hrs and on the 15th. (They'll kick ass, imo) So you'll see the stock spike and people will be selling taking the quick dollar. (if it hits 50 per, I don't blame you a bit for selling, I sure am), so the stock will then dip a bit but resume the up spike once the profit raid is over with. The next step is the Dec 28th meeting (the final dance, Greenlight here means Profit out the ass). Again no trading that day. Expect wild action on the 29th. P.S - I sure hope your bagging T-Babies during every little dip, they are gonna be buying back shares so that cheap stock won't be cheap for much longer. Hail the Fat Divvy!

There's this thing to. Tons of respected health groups/docs, etc have come out in support of AMRN. No negative things at all by them. Meanwhile the only negative things have been put out by those who don't have any medical degrees at all. So it comes down to a simple thing. Who you trust more. Also don't forget that a version of this same drug is FDA greenlit already (for high risk people). So yeah. The scales tip high in AMRN's favor.

I'm still imaging that your parents are both super-hardcore daytraders and they're just calling you a "failure" because you aren't as deep into it as they are.
Like you're in the basement with a 2 monitor setup and a little futures 2x leverage account, and you're excited to tell your parents about making $500 every day. Then you run upstairs and your parents have a massive workstation with 16 monitors and VR and a BB terminal and monster zero ultra on tap. And they're trading futures, crypto, whatever with like 1000x leverage and making tens of thousands a day. And your dad just looks at you with disgust, and says "[anon], you are a failure of a daytrader with your little baby leverage. get out of here! never talk to me or my wife's son's mom again!"

That's probably what's going on. They just want to see you take daytrading seriously. If you up the number of monitors and the margin that you use, people will respect you more. You also need business cards and an official daytrading mixtape, otherwise you're just a hobbyist.

we've had at least a couple, maybe a half-dozen people come through in the past year or so, saying "should I quit my job and be a daytrader?". And we ("we") always tell them "no", because that's retarded. Never quit your job without having a better one lined up!
but in your case, you already quit your job, so we can't give that advice. On one hand, try and get the best job you can. Something stable that you enjoy. (for example, wendys is hiring 20K new morning positions to make a breakfast version of the baconator). On the other hand, if you are making more money than your parents make daytrading, then you shouldn't be too concerned if they call you names. Just be patient with them. They aren't communicating with you in a very constructive way, but they care about you. And do your best! :)

Two earnings calls for me tomorrow: Enbridge and Cascades Inc (paper goods/packaging). Pretty confident about both to meet or beat. Sold CCL.B today as they have earnings next Tuesday. I thought THOUGHT thought that leaf markets were going to be closed on Monday (stat holiday) so I thought that I had to sell today or tomorrow to get out prior. Turns out leaf markets are open on Monday. Hopefully it doesn't pump too much tomorrow. Or I guess it doesn't matter. But I will feel like a doofus for selling three days out from earnings instead of the planned 1-2. CCL.B has a habit of running up to earnings day, missing, and then dropping 10% in response.

Evelyn sits by the elevator doors.
It's been 37 years since James dies on St. Patrick's Day in 1964,
but she could not hold it against him.
There were times when there was nothing she could do but lie in bed all day beside a picture of them together...
A picture of better days...
And just like James, I'll be drinking Irish tonight
and the memory of his last work week wil be gone forever...
Evelyn I'm not coming home tonight,
if we're never together
if I'm never back again
well I swear to god that I'll love you forever
Evelyn I'm not coming home tonight...
In all the years that went by she said she'd always love him
and from the day that he died she never loved again.
In his wallet she kept in her nightstand an A.A. card and a lock of red hair.
She kept secrets of pride locked so tight in her heart
it killed a part of her before the rest was gone.
She said, "if I would have known just how things would have ended up I just would have let myself die."
And just like James, I'll be drinking Irish tonight
and the memory of his last work week wil be gone forever...

why not get started by just buying/selling shares of VXX or UVXY
I'd suggest to start trading even single shares, to get a feel for the buy/sell.

One thing you'll see when you're trying to squeeze some profit from VIX spikes is the spreads kind of blow up, so you might not get the returns that a chart would imply.
The "excitement" and moneymaking with long VIX positions is trying to grab a big old bag of cash when VIX spikes. But for the volatility-tracking ETFs and options on them, these "sweet spots" are where the prices that you can actually buy and sell the instruments for gets pretty fuzzy for a period of seconds or even up to a couple minutes. You really have to be in the trade and watching the bid/asks to feel it.
I would suggest to start with just shares instead of options. It isn't really as weird as I make it sound, but it does have a different feeling from "normal" stocks, so you don't want to get caught in it with too much money...

(disclaimer: Most financial professionals would not use these instruments for raw speculating, they are a tool to adjust volatility of a larger position more easily.)

I suppose there are worse things than SVXY puts. I would be unwilling to hold enough SVXY to sell covered calls on for a long period of time, and I would strongly advise against selling naked calls.
VIX is notoriously hard to long, if you're dead set on it I'm pretty sure a short-term buy of UVXY at 1.5x or even TVIX at 2x would be less risky than options on SVXY. Shorting VIX much more predictable and easier

if you're just sort of casually trading it, use whatever. Whenever I'm holding a "hot" instrument like a VIX-etf or calls on one, I'm a bit tense. I'm watching the graph, looking to get in or out of the position pretty tight. I'm not trying to hold too long, and I am trying to squeeze some value out of my sell timing.

Try and pick an instrument with a reasonable volume, but like I said before, when things get nuts you don't know what the actual book is going to look like. "volume" numbers quoted for things like ETFs are a daily volume, but if VIX shoots up 5% in a few minutes, you have no idea if there are going to be bids to get you out of your position with your "full" deserved profit or not. Maybe one day, there are more accommodating books for one of the ETFs after a big move up, the other day there aren't. You never really know what it's going to look like until it happens, and it happens fast, and you have to do the best you can.

But perhaps you are a "serious" big boy investor and not a excitable speculator. Maybe you're just looking to take a position in VIX-correlated instruments to help adjust and formulate a broader, less time-sensitive position (in fact, to adjust the time sensitivity of such a position). In that case you might use VIX etfs or "make" a volatility hedge yourself the old fashioned way. The strategies you use will arise naturally from your overall investment goals, as always.

I don't mess with VIX plays anymore. I was successful overall with it, but I wasn't making enough for it to be worth the time. I wasn't looking at anything but SPY and VIX minute charts, no indicators, nothing. If I had to day-trade, that's probably how I would do it, but it's easier and better for me to just buy and hold.
It is kind of fun to do once or twice though. You know, thinking about it makes me want to stare at the chart all day tomorrow and scalp UVXY calls..Even though it's tense, it's still very direct, a pure and interactive feeling.
