Generally speaking though, the longer you hold your stocks the less the tax bite will be unless you take a loss on the deal, then the loss can be used to offset any tax owed. This is really where knowing where you fall on the tax bracket scale comes in handy. You can about judge how much you can make without it pushing you into a higher bracket and thus fork out more in taxes.

Hi SMG I know this is abit off topic but I’m asking this here because I think you guys are the most knowledgeable about what’s actually possible out there in the investment world. A couple of my friends have been approached by a company offering them to invest in a forex managed trading account, and they are being told they can expect 20 percent returns PER MONTH! This was the biggest red flag for me and made me think it was a scam however the company has published trading history since February this year that shows they have been averaging around 20 percent per month. I know in my heart this is some kind of scam and a lot of my friends are putting ever increasing amounts of money into it and I just can’t tell what the actual scam is at this point

The way the "cheat" work is that you deposit 2K or more, since that's the minimum to get margin on RH.

Then you buy 100 stock, he did it with Ford in this case, and you write a deep ITM covered call to get premium equal to your initial investment.
