What is the simplest, lowest risk way to start trading, where you can start with very small capital, and build up once you get the hang of it?

I've tried my hand at buying and selling gold miners which worked for a period when trump was tweeting about the China trade deal. I was thinking of mini gold futures or spot gold on margin next.

But what are some other basic trades or ideas you've been doing?

As previously mentioned, I want to start with tiny capital to understand the market, then scale up.

If you're buying and holding index funds, it's like putting your money in a savings account.

Trading on the movements of up or down 1% a day wouldn't earn much, unless you used leverage.
