The NYSE Arca Gold BUGS Index is a modified equal dollar weighted index of companies involved in gold mining. BUGS stands for Basket of Unhedged Gold Stocks. Gold is priced at 1500 dollar per ounce.
In order to crash that to half it's price, you need to replace 99% of gold production by asteroid mining at a cost below 750 dollars per ounce.
Global production is about 3000 tonnes.
In 10-20 years this will be 4000 tonnes.
And using inflation we'll say that 99% of the miners will mine at a cost way in excess of 1000 dollars.
So in 20 years you need to set up an infrastructure that can mine 4000 tonnes of gold from asteroids which will give you a revenue of 128.6 billion.
That's about the price of the apollo project.

All that to crash the price by 50% 20 years from now.
