Maybe, but there is psychological component too. Do you really want to own stocks that you don't love in your heart? If those stocks will make you money, then sure, but when your stocks are down 25% or more, are you going to feel happy to keep them and cherish them until they (hopefully) turn around? KHC is the talk of the day and hell why not with that 12% gain and the endless circle of despair that seems to have been plugged in the shat hole. Not quite. The big problem is a lot of traders, new and even a few years experienced, do not like to scale out of positions. They got the cost averaging in a bullish range down, more or less, and maybe they're getting better about waiting for confirmation on buys so they're not knife catching. But the scsling out, nuh uh. Dig in heels and refuse to sell until a bag hold that turned to profit from the same stubbornness turns back in to a loss again. And since the bear often runs faster than the bull, that loss can turn from mild to severe real quick.

So it's not as simple as doing The Costanza Opposite FTW strat. Do that and the same types of losses will continue.

I'm in KY. COL is low as hell, sales tax is 6%. I get by on a shitty 27k a year. The issue with our state is our current gov is saying "we gotta cut spending in order to be better financially" Which is true, but you can only cut so much, reduce spending so much before you hit a wall. (He's also trying to fuck over state workers). The new Gov (if he wins Nov 5th) is more about growing revenue v.s cutting shit to the bone. His plan is to bring in gambling and expanding farming for food production (which this state is nice environment for that purpose). Missed the jump sure but there's no reason to think you've missed the whole show. Do you ever into ichimoku cloud moon trading? I think it's helpful to look at it when judging nipponesian charts as they look like most of the people trading are using ichimoku. That may be part of the reason nippon stock trading is so volatile even on their mega cap blue chippies.

IBKR is a more serious platform, but if you're going to do this long term, then i highly suggest them. Besides every tool imaginable etc for any instrument you want to trade and very fast order fill, they provide all sorts free materials and so on. The commisions depend on action and instrument, but aren't high anyway (the ib lite is comm free) and the data packs are free if you have payed over 30$ in comms in month. The only downside is their charts, they're not that convenient to use. I've had IB since day 1, and I absolutely love it.

My grandparents left me money in their will and I'm wondering how to invest it. I worked in a finance related job for a couple years but no longer follow the market other than major indices.

I've always liked the idea of set it and let it grow in a low cost mutual fund but I'm worried about investing the money at the moment because I agree with others that recession is coming in 2020. Once that hits I'm just going to put it in a spx50 fund but dont know what to do in the meantime.
