Been watching Gate, it's pretty good basically a gate to another world opens up in japan and they attack a city. Naturally they only had swords, were prompty wiped out by modern forces and they then invade the gate/other world.

Yer I feel you, when I first started at my wagie job I actually tried to do a decent job to see if the demoralization attitude was correct, after about a year of having the best track record I am still the lowest paid employee from my group despite the fact that I was the person in charge of two fairly important projects and consistently did my best. Stopped giving a shit a while ago and simply do the minimum to not get fired now. I too own a beat up car, prius with 200K miles. It isn't the best car around but it's really good on the spending, I only buy gas once every 3 weeks.

We gotta do what we can to get ahead in the modern world, following the same path people did 30 years ago will only get us mediocre wages and a life of paying off debts. I like to think of it as a challenge in a really shitty video game. Gotta do what we can with what we have, probably sounds retarded coming from a guy like me though lmao

I haven't read that one. As for The Outsiders, I don't really know how to critique it. I don't expect to remember many of the details about the particular CEOs or their businesses; more important are the common characteristics that the author brings out in each of them. I guess the book mostly provides a loose model with which to evaluate businesses or managers. It provides some ideas of things to look for, the book even ends with a checklist for creating value through capital allocation decisions. It would probably be especially useful to someone who actually wants to run a business.

Yeah it's clear that the common traits shared by the CEOs in the book can't just be taken as a recipe for success. He makes it sound as if all other managers just have their heads up their asses and if only they'd been more like these guys they would have done better, but obviously most CEOs are not idiots, so clearly it's a lot more complicated than what we have here. He definitely doesn't sell short the feats of the people in the book, but I think in order to establish themes and some clear takeaways he had to oversimplify. I don't know that there would be a better way to do it in a book of this length, and I'm fairly satisfied with the handful of concepts that I came away with.
