im born and raised here. it's a pretty nice place to live if you have money. and even if you don't have much money at least there's a lot of cheap quality food around. there are easily a dozen high quality and reasonably priced restaurants a five minute walk from me. and that's just my neighborhood. and there is a lot of food trucks around now too which give even more food and are pretty damn cheap.

also as far as american cities go it's still very low crime because Giuliani and Bloomberg went full blown police state. diblasio started rolling back their policies so things are getting worse but it's still pretty good. you can still walk around entire swathes of the city in the dead of night without a care in the world.

overall it's idk. it's okay. there's a lot of negatives but there is a lot of redeeming qualities as well. honestly a lot of people just move here from smallish towns from the Midwest and the south just so they can find a job.

What neighborhood? I live in Riverdale and we have pretty affordable rent considering it's a safe neighborhood. Kingsbridge/Woodlawn/Morris Park/Pelham Parkway/Country Club/Throggs Neck are probably the only other neighborhoods I would move to. I feel the same way about NYC. Just felt completely exhausted after a couple days there. The people I will say are much nicer than my hometown/state and the women have a lot lower standards for men considering my interactions with females there went in a lot better direction than they do anywhere else I've been or lived. I don't know if it's because they all have herpes or because their relationships with their dads arent good but for once in my life I actually felt like it was possible to not be an incel. The drivers are fucking Meatheads and there's weird Africans and Arabs and chinks everywhere. Took a cab and the mystery meat foreign driver immediately started trying to rip me off by driving me in a loop. Everything is expensive and walking down the street is a nightmare constantly having to walk around a bunch of fucking construction materials surrounded by a chainlink fence that was just arbitrarily dropped onto the sidewalk and not picked up or finished or avoiding a mob of literal Africans surrounding some weird weed food truck. The sidewalks in a lot of places or at least Manhattan are all kinds of fucked up to the point I was literally tripping on cracks in the ground. For a city with people that have so much money, the infrastructure feels really shitty and scummy in general even if the crime is down compared to decades ago. Boston has a lot of problems but I never get that sort of "shithole" vibe that I got from NYC because it's a lot cleaner and shit seems to move a lot more seem to move a lot more efficiently there with the exception of driving a car through Boston which will always be the worst place in the country to get from point A to be point B by car
