>Boomers would unironically bet against a company that can do this

It brings me such joy to watch them talk about how it's going to fail any day now and then watch as they lose their retirement savings.

over 25% in less than 2 days.

i was pondering if i should buy another 5k worth of stock when i noticed, it was earlier today when the stock was at 309 USD.

didn't buy more, of course it went up almost 5% in just a few hours while i made dinner... a little afraid this is one of those "sell the news" situations, that it will drop a lot on monday or tuesday after everybody has bought in due to the earnings report

watched an interesting video the other day, lost the source, they speculated that the oil industry is trying to keep tesla down by buying and selling tesla stocks and make it seem like they are doing poorly. the reasoning is that oil is such a big industry that every day tesla is delayed they are able to earn over a billion USD per day, so it's worth the manipulation price

>>16027872
wish i got in that early, bought a bunch as soon as it dropped below 200 USD earlier this year. depending on how many you got in 2012 you should be sitting on quite a pile of money already.

That may be true, but a lot of it just people who get some idea in their head about going up against a large company and winning. They lose all their financial sense, get sunken cost fallacy, and use confirmation bias to support the idea that they're right.

A good example of this is when that Tesla broke down on the Nurburgring track and got 'lapped by a Porsche. For any rational person, they wouldn't care because they understand cars break down all the time, especially in extreme testing, but for the bears it was like a sign from God and they wouldn't stop talking about it for weeks. Even the media covered it, which is the second part of this issue because they're doing the stock equivalent of fear mongering and the bears don't realize it's mostly just a ploy to get people to pay attention to them.

Teslas are nine times less likely to catch fire than other cars and have the lowest probability of injury on top of it.

Also, I believe there's a list floating around out there of the number of industries that are getting disrupted by SpaceX/Tesla. Big oil is one of them, but there are a lot of others. Big oil is especially good at making people believe that Tesla owners are just environmentalists willing to put up with a shitty car, they don't realize that people really love them.

people forget quickly and there's over 3000 deaths in car crashes per day. im sure they have or will improve batteries to be safer after that.

tesla still has one of the highest safety scores ever (if not the highest), no motor in front of the passengers, more space for the car to fold safely in a crash

>>16028055
man if SpaceX ever goes public i'll put half my savings into it on day one, don't think that'll happen though

the boring company is going to start making a ton of money for tesla soon enough as well. i also hear those roof solar panels that elon talked about a few years ago will soon actually go into production and be sold. they are on the third iteration of them

Yeah, I thought about trying to own SpaceX through buying stock in a company or fund that has some stake, but you get such a small percentage of it that I'm not sure if it's worth it. The thing with SpaceX is that Starlink, if it works properly, can displace a lot of the telecom industry, especially outside of the city where even in first world countries you usually get terrible expensive internet. With a few percent of the global internet market, they're making billions with very high margins. Competition will come but they have the advantage of being five or so years ahead of them and they have the ability to do it far cheaper by launching their satellites using Starship.

It will be interesting to see how the solar part of the company works out. I don't think their pricing is what really matters, it's that they have simplified the process greatly for the homeowners and expect very little of them beyond paying a monthly fee. It's very different than going with a different company where you have to pay upfront and you're not sure how much it will truly cost you until it's installed.

As far as the Boring company goes, I'm waiting for further reduction in the cost of tunneling. They can already compete for a few public infrastructure projects like a system that goes from downtown to an airport, but they need to greatly reduce costs in order to be a true replacement for the rest of them. They have a great benfit in that the cost of building anything above ground is increasing due to red tape and, lets say, not-in-my-backyardism.

the guy in this video is guessing that just letting people bypass traffic congestion will increase boring company's value a lot
https://youtu.be/iRi0bL484J0
i think he might be in the ballpark, it probably won't turn out as great as he figures but if boring company can pull something off it doesn't really matter the cost if it can save people time and improve their lives ("relax instead of being stuck in traffic"). boring company is basically the only company in the world that will be able to deliver these tunnels, although competitors will spring up over time with the advantage of being able to learn from boring company

Thanks, I'll watch that video later. It's interesting that Tesla may take away some of the 'stuck in traffic' mentality just through their autopilot, which is may be a bad thing for Boring. I wouldn't commute two hours in a normal car, but if you give me free Starlink internet and my car drives me there, that's another story.
>>16028667
I expect some pullback once the market figures out what the good quarter was worth, but I'm a very long term investor anyway.

the autopilot is far from ready for that, it'll be a long time before you can relax simply because of the law requiring you to still be aware of what's happening. plus you'll still be stuck in traffic from every other car.

meanwhile in the tunnel you'll actually be able to not pay attention since it's basically your car being dragged on a rail, and there won't be other cars to cause congestion

unfortunately i don't think i can hold tesla stock until 2030, maybe have to sell in 2025 at the latest
