Buy gold whenever people are likely to lose faith in fiat currency (AKA recessions and shit), look at macro indicators over like a ten year period, unemployment, gdp, private investment etc. once you see them all moving on a downward trend buy yourself some gold. Gold prices always increase post-recessions as people think "fuck me fiat currency isn't going to last, the system is going to collapse, sell post-recession.

Gold isnt an investment, its a stabilizer. The only time gold goes up is if the dollar goes in the toilet at the same time, which means youre 1000$ in gold will be able to buy the same amount of bread (well, not actually, because it will still cost more due to supply problems) as before the dollar tanked. Its literally not an investment and you will lose money on it with fees, taxes and supply cost issues.
